  1. Hi Andrew, I have a question in respects to Ebay auctions, following your advice on starting on Ebay with a low budget, I was a able to snipe an item for resale. My question is as follows, what would be the best auction foremat to resell the item in seeing as I dont have much feedback, and the auction may not get many views thus being sold at a loss.

    Thanks Martin.

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Martin,

Thanks for your comment & question.

It depends on competition for that particular item:

      a) If there are not that many active listings for this product (say max few pages of search results), you can put it as simple BIN (Buy It Now) listing for 7-10 days.

      b) If it’s a highly competitive item and you don’t have a TRS account, your best bet is to list the item as a 5-7 day auction listing with a starting price close to your target price (or exactly your target price). Why? Because eBay gives auctions a boost in search results before they end.

So I’d say go with a auction – with a high starting price OR use reserve price function. OR you can also list an auction listing with added Buy It Now price.

      Hope this helps Martin!

      Thanks,
      Andrew

    Hi Andrew,
A question related to this post:
Can you transfer an ebay account from one company to another?
I am intending on setting up a number of brands in separate niches over the next few years (I don’t want to overstretch myself both in time and money so I’m intending on one a year until I get around 5 or 6).
I was thinking of setting up a parent distribution company which would be limited, with the brands being divisions of the main company.
As I see it from your post, if all brands were under the the main company, if I had problems with one brand in terms of bad feedback etc. this would affect the others. Is this how it would work?
Would it be better to have a separate limited company for each brand? I intended to start the first brand under the parent company and when it started to get going, change it to it’s own limited company. Could I transfer the ebay account to this new company keeping the feedback and status I had earned?

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Sean

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Sean,

Technically you can’t transfer eBay accounts BUT in their T&Cs they say – without their consensus. So your best bet would be to send an email and ask eBay directly about this.

But having multiple Ltds. (one for each account) won’t help you when things go bad – all these accounts you’ll own will be inter-linked (eBay will know that you own all of them) and if one will be banned, with 99% chance all others will be banned too very soon. Same applies to PayPal accounts.

Nonsense? Of course! But that’s how eBay works.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  3. Sean Foster says:

    Thanks for your reply Andrew,
eBay always seems to just be a law upon itself, the sooner I’m using it for generating leads rather than the main source of sales, the better!

    Sean

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Sean,

Yes, absolutely! Nowadays to relay just on eBay is a very risky business model to run. They can stop you from trading in one day, just like that for no reason and if all your income comes from eBay, you’re screwed. Not saying this happens often though – usually people make mistakes, breach policies etc. etc.

If possible, always try to diversify risks by trading on all 3 major platforms – eBay, Amazon and your own online shop. Depending on the niche, Facebook, Etsy and some other specialised platforms are good too.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  4. Hi

I would like to open up a ebay account in Germany as I would like to purchase items from that country unfortunately some of the sellers do not allow foreign buyers to bid on their item hoe do I get around in opening an account

    Thanks Liz

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Liz,

You don’t have to open a separate account for German eBay – you can login and use your current account.

As for buying from sellers who don’t ship outside Germany, you’ll want to look for a Germany based mail forwarding company like we have Shipito.com and others in the US.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  5. Hi,
I have opened three new ebay accounts, one for slow moving items, intermediate and fast moving items. Currently, I have a limit of 10 items per month, I sold almost 10 items on two of the accounts, but came across a stumble on third one, when some jerk posted a negative feedback just after three minutes of purchasing the item. which left me with -1 feedback score and now I can only sell one item per month on that account. I have reported the buyer with ebay, but don;t know what will happen. How is this going to affect my other accounts, would their selling limits will be lowered too. I have 100% feedback for those two accounts.
    Thanks,
    Kusum.

    Hi Andrew,
I have read some of your usefull advice and i belive i need one.
My paypal account has been limited because i messup and they say to release my money after 45days and i can not appeal the decision.
when and if the release the money
Can i open another account in the future or i’m ban for life?
    Regards,
    joseph

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Joseph,

      Thanks for your question.

If it’s just limited for 45 days, there’s a chance that it’s not a permanent ban. They will def. release money to you, don’t worry about that.

All you can do is wait and then see what happens – whatever they ban your account or re-instate it’s status back to normal. If it’s a ban, it’s a ban for life.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  7. Joel Joya says:

Thanks for your valuable information. My wife wants to open her own ebay account and she is in the same bank account as mine. Can she link the ebay account to my paypal account using the same bank account? If any ban or restriction to my ebay account will apply to her just because we share the same paypal account and bank account? As additional infoemation , she has a her own credit card with the same bank and account as mine.

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Joel,

Thanks for your comment & questions.

No, she can’t use same bank account (as far as I know) and even if she could, it would be a bad move as if one account gets suspended/banned, eBay will inter-link both and ban both accounts.

But if she has a credit card, she can use that for account verification purposes (eBay won’t see that it shares same bank account you use).

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  8. Sarah Dodds says:

    Hiya Andrew
We currently running one Ebay account but want to set up another selling the same products but with different promotions particularly with regards to postage. Our competitors are doing the same but I am a little concerned that this is within Ebay’s rules as they state “The two accounts are never used in the same listing”
    Can you clarify?
    Thank you in anticipation
    Sarah

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Sarah,

Thanks for your comment & question.

eBay is totally fine with multiple accounts but creating “fake” competition is probably something they won’t approve (if someone reports you). (this is actually covered in the Duplicate Listings policy here: http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/listing-multi.html)

You can easily avoid this though by creating the other listing in a different style – use different listing, different pictures etc., then no one can say you’re using two accounts for same listing – as it will essentially be a different listing.

Technically it’s against Duplicate Listing policy but I can’t see how could anyone find out. Just don’t use eBay’s provided info for listings (like EAN number etc.) so they can’t see same item being listed by two accounts owned by same person.

Obviously, this is still against rules so if you want to ply 100% White Hat – don’t do it! And report any of your competitors doing the same.

      Hope this helps Sarah!

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      • Hi Andrew

Would this also apply for two accounts in the same household (but owned by two different people) selling products from the same manufacturers?

and then taking it further….. does it also apply if they are selling the occasional identical product?

        regards

        • Andrew Minalto says:

          Hi Matt,

It’s all grey area so I can’t tell you for sure…

If you can avoid such situations, better avoid them.

OR contact eBay and ask what’s their take on this as the rules are rather vague to make any conclusions.

          Thanks,
          Andrew

  9. I have a small problem that I cannot seem to get my head round!!

I have a personal eBay account , which I use now and again to buy/sell – and now am taking over and going to run a friends business eBay account.

I have linked the new account to my paypal account, and added a new bank account – but would like the business account payments to be kept separate from private, so I have set the business email account to become my primary account, as this will be used more often.

If I sell/buy through ebay from my private account, how do I ensure that the payments don’t go in/come out of the business bank account?

    Hope this makes sense!!

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Yvonne,

      Thanks for stopping by! :-)

I’m afraid that’s not possible. You can’t separate those payments in PayPal. Well, technically you can but they will be mixed up and it will only be upon you to decide how much money you can withdraw to your business bank account any given time.

So you would have to keep a spreadsheet or something where you count the money received from business sales. And then you can withdraw that money to business bank account.

Why complicate your life? Simply open another PayPal account, this time, business one, and use that for business transactions on eBay. Keep it totally separate from your personal account.

      Hope this helps!

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  10. Hello,
I already have one that I mainly use for selling and I wanted to open a new ebay acct just for buying.
    Is this allowed?
And I wasn’t sure if it was okay to use same paypal account for both of these accounts.
If not allowed, would it be okay if I make another paypal account with my credit card and link it to the new buying ebay account?
Current paypal account only has my debit card info…hope you get what im trying to say here…

    Thanks in advance!

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Chloe,

      Thanks for your question.

YES, you can open as many eBay accounts as you want, that’s totally ok with eBay rules.

YES, you can use ONE PayPal account for all those eBay accounts you create.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  11. Thanks for your response,
I just noticed you are an entrepreneur in UK–
    And I’m in USA,
then does your answer change because I do ebay in the states…?
Sorry if i wasted your time Andrew :(

  12. OK, here’s my dilemma. I am operating as a trading assistant. I have three clients. I got royally burned in 2012 by the IRA’s rule for issuing 1099s to eBay sellers. Using 1 Paypal account, I directed all transactions for me and the three clients into it. At the end of 2012, the total was over 23,000. So, I (and the IRS) received a 1099, generated by Paypal. This resulted in my having to report my eBay activity on a Schedule C income tax form. I sold a whole lot more for my clients than I did for myself. It simply wasn’t fair for me to have to pay 35% on my earnings when most of the $23,000 was from a total of sales from four sellers. So in the future, I’d like to keep my sales separate from my client’s sales in the future in order to avoid this from happening again. What do you recommend?

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Lynn,

      Thanks for your question.

I’m not an expert on USA tax system but from what I know, you definitely want to form some sort of business and have a new BUSINESS account with PayPal. And then you won’t mix up personal tax/credits with business.

When you have a business, you’ll only have to pay some sort of corporate tax on PROFIT, so you’ll deduct all expenses in first place.

That’s how I see it but probably you should find more detailed info on IRS website: http://www.irs.gov/

Sorry, not much of a help, I know.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  13. Hello,

I spotted a niche and I would like to open ebay accounts in different countries as this would generate more profit and I will have less competition.
I wanted to ask if I need a paypal account for those different countries to operate an ebay account. I can get telephone numbers to set up an account but I am too sure about the paypal side of things.

    Thanks

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi John,

      Thanks for stopping by.

You don’t need additional eBay accounts to list on regional sites. Your one eBay login is valid on ALL regional sites and you can list on any site you want with your current account.

If you’re using Turbo Lister, simply download additional countries and list everything from one place.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  14. Hello Andrew,

a quick question – when I first opened my PayPal account it was my sister who opened it for me, with my credit card but in her name. Now, PayPal won’t let me change the name of the existing account unless it’s a minor change or in case of a divorce/marriage.
Do you know if it’s possible to change the name somehow, or can I cancel the existing account (with my sister’s name) and then use that same credit card to open a new one in my name?

    Thanks,
    Sanja

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Sanja,

      Thanks for your question.

No, you can’t do that. As far as I know one credit card can be linked only to one account.

Your best bet is simply to get a new card and open new PayPal account on your name, problem solved.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  15. Hi my partner had her selling suspended on Ebay for not coming up to standard with posting items. This happened during a difficut time with a death in the family.
Ebay have now suspended my facility to sell by interlinking us I presume through paypal. My Ebay account is 100% and mainly used for buying. This is Im told a life ban and just through association, all seems draconian and unfair.

    Any advice

    Graham

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Graham,

      That’s unfortunate…

What you need to do is get a new address, new card & bank account, change IP on your PC (usually can be done by simply restarting your router) and then you can try opening a new account.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      • Can you give a false name and address on PayPal as I want to open a new account with eBay. My old account is being suspended for no reason
        Liz

        • Andrew Minalto says:

          Hi Liz,

No, you can’t do that as then you wouldn’t be able to verify/confirm your address and name afterwards (PayPal asks for ID and proof of address when you reach certain limit).

          Thanks,
          Andrew

  16. Hello Andrew,

I have a personal eBay account, no problems buying or bidding on eBay.
Until a Powerseller decided to BLOCK me.

It was quite unreasonable without any advance warning, and I think it’s probably because she was afraid I might leave a negative feedback.

That being said, I actually have not even started bidding or buying from this Powerseller. I just wrote to her asking some questions about authenticity and she blocked me !

I got my friend to buy that item for me using my friend’s account and it turned out all right. Question, because no other sellers offer this type of product on eBay – how can I convince this seller to UNBLOCK ME ? I’ve actually tried writing to her but no reply anymore :( and I am still BLOCKED by her.

Or can I use a different email address to open a new eBAY account but still linked to my current PAYPAL account (since I actually did not buy from her yet). Will this work ? Will she still recognize me and BLOCK me again ??

Please advise, hope to hear from you.

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Lena,

      Thanks for your question.

Not much you can do on un-blocking if she doesn’t reply to your messages..

But yes, you can open new eBay account, no probs with that! AND you can add that new email to your PayPal account as secondary and I don’t think you’ll face any problems.

eBay users are blocked purely by user ID. So if you get a new account with a new user ID, that seller won’t be able to filter you.

      Hope this helps!

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      • Hello Andrew,

Thanks for your advice, your site certainly helps a tonne compared to some of the long drawn-out sites I’ve been to :) Sweet and straight to the point !

One last thing though, do I need to CLOSE my existing eBay account in order to open a NEW one?

Sorry if I’m asking redundant questions, I am still a learning eBayer.

        Thanks alot in advance !
        lena

        • Andrew Minalto says:

Glad I can help Lena! :-)

No, you don’t have to open your current eBay account. You can open as many new accounts as you want.

          Thanks,
          Andrew

    hello Andrew,
its really nice blog created by you and quite informative. my question is regarding VAT, what is the VAT criterion at ebay, what amount they deduct if we are registered as business seller without vat registration no. So whats the policy for vat. I feel obliged
    thanks and regards,
    Asif

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Asif,

      Thanks for your question.

eBay won’t deduct anything from your sales – it doesn’t matter you’re VAT registered or not.

There will be difference in fees though – it’s quite a large topic so I recommend you check out this page for more information:

      http://pages.ebay.co.uk/vat-landing/faq/

      Hope this helps!

      Thanks,

  18. Hi

Is it fair that companies operate with more than one name in eBay when one of the companies let you down and you then inadvertently buy the same goods but from the other one of their companies without knowing. you could have a problem straight away, unless you do searches you cant tell they are the same, and again why have 2 companies owned by the same and selling the same goods.

    Rob

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Rob,

      Thanks for stopping by.

Yes, of course – this could cause situations when sellers with bad reputation are working in several niches. But let’s not forget that eBay is kind of strict and act fast on banning accounts, when they do, all your accounts are banned.

As for having two accounts to sell same goods, this is actually against eBay rules.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  19. I have an business PayPal account, but I don’t sell on eBay. I often by stuff for my kids on eBay.
Is it possible to link this private eBay account to my pusiness PayPal account?
Or will I get in trouble?

    • Andrew Minalto says:

You can definitely do that, there’s nothing wrong with that!

This is not against any eBay or PayPal rules.

  20. Jeremiah Hamblin says:

    Hi Andrew,
When i found this I was very excited. You are clearly very knowledgeable on these matters. Here is my Question and problem if you don’t mind helping me out: I have sellers account on ebay that was going very well. I only had around 80 sales but they were for large amounts of money ( more than a few thousand per week ). I sell all kinds of Bullion and Rare Coins. I started off slow as i heard you always should, only ran auctions, and always ended them Sunday evening. As i began selling more and more I noticed people were starting to open cases on me. Claiming things like the package never arrived mainly, but also not as described twice. The bigger the dollar amounts the more people were trying to rip me off. Thank goodness for registered priority with insurance. These claims were all false and ebay took care of all but two negative feedback attempts out of 12. Then last week my entire shipment disappeared ( over $3000 and I was counting on that to pay my ebay fees). I ship through a company that works with UPS, FED EX, USPS, they have P.O. boxes, etc. BBB accredited and had been around or a very long time. It’s under investigation but I’m now shut down for not making my payment in time. I was able to inform some of the buyers before shut down by ebay but all of them have reported me including the ones I informed about the problem. Somehow all of the money in my Paypal account disappeared and I’m in fact negative. Now I have no way of making money to even pay them and even when I do I’ll have 10 negative feedback’s and nobody will buy from me again. Is there anything I can do about this situation? Can I create another ebay and paypal account with different email and bank accont so i can make the money to pay off the account and then close the old account and just start over? Is that against ebay and paypal rules. I’ve read all of your posts and learned a lot but I don’t know what I can do here. Is Amazon ok? I heard not. Have you heard of onlineauction.com or greatcollections.com, or HeritageAuctions? I’ve been researching but don’t know what to do? Any advice I would so greatly appreciate.
    Sincerely,
    Jeremiah

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Jeremiah,

Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

Basically you’re screwed. Both your eBay and PayPal accounts are banned and by their rules you can’t have a new account FOR LIFE!

But there are ways to go around this problem. I’m not an expert on this topic but here’s a forum that should help you out:

      http://www.paypalsucks.com/

      Hope this helps Jeremiah!

Since my account was suspended, will it in any way effect his account?

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi There,

      Thanks for stopping by.

It depends, but usually yes – eBay bans all accounts from same household. I know that totally sucks and makes no sense at all but that’s how it works.

I’m not saying it will happen 100% but it could happen – from the stories I have heard.

If they do ban your husband’s account, he should contact eBay and say that he has nothing to do with the other account etc. etc., sometimes they listen and lift restrictions.

Sorry, not much of a help, I know.

Can I do that? The problem is that we had open a new eBay account to sell the same items so I can stop selling those items in my personal eBay account, but with that new eBay account we have 0 positive feedback so it is hard to sell, I decided to close the new eBay account and I was wondering if it is allow to change Paypal accounts and just use one account only.

On my eBay account I go to PayPal account and from there I can remove my linked PayPal account, but I am afraid to do that and then not be able to add the new PayPal account and who knows what else can happen. I want to do the right thing here and not be kicked out of eBay.

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Deibys,

      Thanks for your comment.

I wouldn’t recommend you using your friends PayPal account on your eBay account to sell stuff. I’m not sure it’s against eBay rules but it could cause all kinds of problems when your account gets reviewed under a dispute or something else.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  25. Hi Andrew

I’m so glad I’ve come across your website! I’m a little baffled to say the least with this business account lark ….. The stuff I have been selling is genuinely my own as I don’t have the space and my life has become a total mess. I am being prompted by Paypal to upgrade to a business account. It’s absurd, as they take into account your postage and packing. The postage for my last listing was £80 and what I got before fees was about £50. Most of my items were free packaging, as I thought it would help encourage bidders – it was another ‘give away your items. Denise weekend’! Anyway, that is perhaps by the by, but this constant badgering by Paypal has made me wonder if it is possible for me to do the same as others and have a business. So I could keep my personal account to get rid of the rest of the stuff and somehow try and ‘buy’ and sell. It wouldn’t be constant as I currently have heart problems and so it wouldn’t be a ‘big’ business selling account. I can see that the fees are about £20 a month, and I see the listing and final selling fees …… an extra expense if you don’t have much to sell.

I read somewhere in one of your replies that you have to register as a business ….. do you mean register as a business at Companies House? I am aware that you have to declare to HMRC – not a problem, no intention of trying to avoid anything that has to be done.

As I don’t know it will work, I would be reluctant to do that. I have done some research and see that Santander will let you open a business account for free for the first 12 months. Sorry I’ve rambled on a bit and thank you for your patience …..

    Many thanks and kind regards,
    Denise.

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Denise,

      Thanks for your comment.

YES, you can have one personal and one business account with PayPal and it’s totally FREE! There are no monthly fees associated with PayPal business account.

And on eBay you can have as many accounts as you want.

As for registering with HMRC – yes, you need to register as a sole trader, more info here:

      https://www.gov.uk/set-up-sole-trader

      Hope this helps!

      Thanks,
      Andrew

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Petr,

      Thanks for stopping by,

Why did your eBay account was suspended in first place? Did you sold any branded/designer stuff?

If eBay suspends your account (for life), it will suspend your PayPal account too. And it will suspend any new accounts you open. Basically, you’re screwed for life and won’t be able to simply open new account and start all over.

But let me know why your account was suspended as sometimes, if the reason is valid, you can actually lift ban from your account.

      Thanks,
      Andew

  28. I recently read this month on auction bytes somewhere mentioned that starting November 2013, members will no longer be able to have Multiple eBay Accounts.

Q: Were you not aware of this?

If not, then it was also suggested that anyone wishing to have another accounts should do so BEFORE October 26, 2013 while current User Agreement acceptance options are in process.

I do appreciate the information you’ve shared but let’s remember that UK eBay terms and practices differ for USA accounts and do not always agree with same UK practices.

I sell as a hobby (toronan) since 1999 but I am not a dealer or an expert. One secret to my success as a buyer leaving negative feedback is to apply ONLY WHILE ON TELEPHONE with site reps. If a buyer leaves bad comments to a seller from log in page then the chances of having it removed or being suspended are far more greater than will on the telephone with a rep. It was suggested (to me) to ALWAYS call ebay or submit an inquiry where they create a code to call them back using that information and be live on the phone with a site rep discussing your drama. MANY times (as you can see I do it quite often for true reasons thou) I was instructed to call the toll number to get into site with ebay rep and then log into my account and leave seller my feedback (I only do this if its a negative) so that they can confirm comment to be legit;otherwise, if I leave a bad review WITHOUT calling them then my chances of being suspended (as a buyer) would be greater than if witnessed by a live phone rep. This is done to help others avoid being taken advantage by sellers deserving my derogatory comment. Ebay reps said they will always take buyers side if done this way (but its not a known detail in writing) etc.

Q: Were you aware of this?

If not, try it when you have a need to leave your seller (in UK) a bad comment. This process will HELP any seller keep a better seller-status while following this buyer-method.

Now, for those that have been selling as long as I have on ebay, do you remember some years back when you delat business with a buyer or seller and “if” they were eBay employees, they were REQUIRED to make that known.

    Q: Do you remember this?

Ok, now here’s my inquiry with you: On August 13, 2013 you suggested (quote):

[change IP on your PC (usually can be done by simply restarting your router) and then you can try opening a new account]

For those sellers that have saved (like me) all those eBay EMPLOYEE (buyer-seller ID) since they’re no longer required to volunteer that info anymore, I want to also be able to do the same (to them) if or when I buy something from these employees in order to have “only when necessary” if ever!

Q: Will your “change IP” suggestion work for me if I do the following:

    1. If my ebay IP shows being at home (Atlanta, Ga) each time I’m logging into my ebay account, if I go use the Computer Room in my loft building business office located downstairs (I live upstairs in apartment) and use “their desktop which is available for residents and create another new eBay account:

Q: Will eBay know its still me since the desktop in downstairs in my same building?
Q: Would the IP address remain the same or automatically different?
Q: If so, should I then ONLY use the downstairs desktop in business office for that new ID?
Q: And, are you 100% certain that by anyone [change IP on your PC (usually can be done by simply restarting your router) and then you can try opening a new account] will work, or, is that your “speculation?

Thank you, K. Rose (aka toronan)

  29. LMAO…ok then! thanks anyway

  30. OK.Perhaps you have addressed this question before, but I could not find the answer on your site. My question is this: Since Paypal generates 1099′s after $20,000 and 200 items in total per SSN, if 2 people in the same household with the same IP address filing jointly have separate Paypal accounts, will the 1099 be generated for combined sales of the 2 people with separate accounts, or only if each individual receives $20,000 through Paypal? In other words, once one person receives say $15,000 through Paypal, can the other person receive $10,000 without having Paypal generate a 1099? I assume the answer is yes, since Paypal will computer generate a 1099 by account and SSN, not by combined household accounts. Thanks for your help. You have a great site!

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi There,

      Thanks for your question.

Unfortunately I won’t be able to help you with this as in UK we don’t have 1099′s etc.

I would agree with your logic though – it should be PER ACCOUNT basis rather than household.

But I would recommend you contacting PayPal to confirm this – their support has improved greatly and I have received responses to my request within 24h lately.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  31. Hi There,

The e-bay restricted my account.Which means,I can only sell locally.

But I can still use my friend’s account to sell/buy.

Can I change my friend’s paypal’s address on ebay so that I can pay the ebay fees directly with my own paypal account?.

Would it be restricted for this account if ebay knows it?.

    Thanks,

    Saw

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Saw,

      Thanks for your question.

YES! eBay will “link” your account with friend’s account and will ban that too.

If you use friend’s account, don’t do it at your house as eBay can see your location too (by IP address).

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  32. Hi Andrew,

I am kind of new to ebay and I recently opened an account I have almost 10 feedbacks all of them are 100% positive, but my concern is if I want to sell an item will paypal close my account when I would want to withdraw the money from the sold item due a low number of feedback ? Thanks alot

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Wassim,

      Thanks for stopping by.

No, of course not. Why would they want to close your account? If you’re playing by rules, they won’t do it (in 99% cases).

Only thing with new accounts is that PayPal will put 21 day block on each sale and release money only after 21 day after sale OR after customer leaves you feedback.

But that probably is nothing new to you if you’re already selling.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      • Ok thanks alot, if the customer give a poor feedback what would happen then?

        • Andrew Minalto says:

          don’t let that happen!

if you get a negative with just 10 feedbacks, that pretty much means end of your eBay career – at least with that account. 2 negs and eBay will probably ban you in no time.

So do whatever it takes to avoid negative feedbacks.

          Thanks,
          Andrew

  33. JO FIELDING says:

Good Morning. Some advice please. I have had my ebay account for years, for both buying and selling. I have now started selling hand made items. They are doing really well, and I want to do the ‘right’ thing and register as a business seller, pay tax etc. What I need to know is will I start paying tax from the day I register, or will I have to declare everything I’ve ever sold. Many thanks.

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Jo,

      Thanks for your question.

eBay doesn’t care about this. But when you register with HMRC, you’ll be able to basically declare previous sales (up for 3 months) and expenses too (if you still have receipts).

But in essence, you’ll start paying tax on your recent business activities and NOT on everything you have ever sold as a individual seller.

      Hope this helps!

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      • JO FIELDING says:

Thanks for that. I have just looked into the ins and outs of becoming a business seller. There are far too many disadvantages (the returns process is a joke.Having to refund postage costs as well if they simply change their mind) All my items are made to order with some personalised, so wouldn’t want to offer returns. Can I register for tax without becoming a business seller on ebay? Thanks in advance.

        • Not sure on that one to be honest….

Technically you should be able to do this yes, but once you reach certain sales volume in PayPal, it will ask you to upgrade your account anyway.

          Thanks,
          Andrew

  34. i have been selling on ebay since 1998.learning my ways with baby steps. There is NO marketplace like ebay.one thing i have learned is nobody is ever 100% happy.my feedback scores have always been no lower than 99.3%.my first account i sold over 10,000 items, closed it to take some time off.opened a new account, noticed times have changed.the economy has hit ebay hard,i really had to work to make sales.my seller dashboard showed that i was below standard in seller ratings but feedback was still high 99%.i came home yesterday to find Ebay has closed my account. No phone call,no communication, nothing.i called to find out what had happened.i got a nuetral feedback and that is what broke the camels back.i worked so hard to get my dash board in order, but only 1/3 of my buyers have left feedback out of 2700 items sold.My question now….What do i do with the thousand dollars worth of goods that i have and can not sell?this was a business,i pay taxes on it,i have a seperate room in my house,we depended on it.most companys can write it off as a loss. i am at total shock that this had happened and very confused.any help or ideas would be welcomed.i could go on and on but won’t…..thank you!

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Mark,

I’m sorry to hear about your experience…

This is the biggest problem with eBay and companies alike – they have control over you and you can’t do anything about it. This is why I started working on my own online shops early on so I can be in 100% control on what’s going on.

As for your situation – you could try calling them again, ask to speak with a manager – sometimes you can sort these things out. If not and they keep the lifetime ban, you’ll have to look for alternative selling channels.

If you have products that are suitable for an online shop, start one asap. It will be a huge learning curve for you but at the end it will be worth it. Having your own online shop is THE WAY to go in long term anyway so the sooner you start, the better.

In meantime, you could simply list those products on Amazon’s Marketplace – it’s a very active selling platform nowadays and many people actually move away from eBay to Amazon.

If everything else fails, just sell those items on Craigslist, car boots or whatever – to get your investment back at least.

But as I said, the best option is simply to start working on your own online shop. If you need guidance on that, check out my eCommerce Magnates course here:

      http://ecommercemagnates.com/special-offer/

And remember, it’s not all lost! You can still turn this ship around and take new direction in your life. For best.

      Hope this helps Mark!

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      • Thank you very much for your very fast reply.

I have bought out several sports stores when they closed.Buying nothing but licensed team jerseys.85% of the items are new.some with tags some without.the other 15% of items are vintage bot in great condition.i have thousands of items in bins(OMG).no really!

i enjoyed selling on ebay, but found the system really favors the buyers now.i am still in shock that this is no longer a job for me and my family.i need to find another way to do this without ebay.i have tried etsy, with nothing but people loving or favoriting your items.I had very good luck on yahoo actions and Yardseller on facebook , but both sites are closed.

any ideas on what to do,where to go?maybe because i am in total shock,i can not think stright…LOL

The sad thing is,i new ebay would come to an end.all they want is the big sellers.i was hurting the marketplace.why spend 90-150 dollars for a sports jersey, when a small seller has the same item for 24-45 dollars.people i bought from in the past.not one of them is active, out of over 120 stores

sorry venting! thanks again for any help you give me.i will share this site with loyal buyers and seelers

        • Andrew Minalto says:

          Hi Mark,

Licensed team jerseys are PERFECT for Amazon or your own online shop, especially if you have so many of them left.

If you want to stick with this niche, start listing on Amazon and in meanwhile build your own shop.

If you just want to get rid of this stock, simply sell them off on Amazon and then look for new direction/niche.

          Thanks,
          Andrew

  35. Hi,do you think it is a good idea for 1 ebay account to use 2 paypal account (eg. 1 for micro paymeny, 1 for regular payment)
for whatever under $10, put micropayment paypal account, and whatever selling over $10, put the regular paypal account.
Is this allowed? can we put different paypal emails under different listings within the same ebay account?

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi John,

Not sure really… technically it can be done but I’m almost certain this is called “playing the system” and eBay won’t like it.

Get in touch with eBay and ask them but chances are they won’t like it.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      • Hi Andrew, thanks for your reply.
I’m sure most sellers has items selling under and over $10.
In this case, what is your advise if not to “play the system”
Do you just work out whether the majority of your item is over or under $10 and decide from there?

eg. if your ebay store has about 70% items listed under $10 and 30% over $10, we just use micropayment?

i have heard that people create 2 separate ebay accounts and paypal account for these things. eg. anything over $10 , use a different ebay account and paypal account. but i am not sure if that will work out smoothly.
i am aware that we can open as many ebay account as we want, but im not sure about paypal account, because we use the same name, address, credit card…

        • That’s the thing – with PayPal you can have just one personal account and one business account per each business you own (Ltd. company). So you can’t just open several personal/premier PayPal accounts.

But yes – you would simply have to do some calculations on how many under $10 payments you receive and how many above that. Just put an Excel spreadsheet together to get at least approx number so you can decide whatever micro payments are beneficial to you or not.

          Thanks,
          Andrew

  36. hi Andrew ,

Can I use different computer lon in ebay account with the same line ? Thanks

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      HI Becky,

Do you mean using different computers to login into eBay account at SAME TIME?

      Let me know,
      Thanks,
      Andrew

  37. Hello there,

I have some questions to make myself too. I have an account at ebay.co.uk and I decided to start selling various items..the problem is that I live in greece so I can’t be a seller as I don’t have an English address and phone number. So, I registered a new account at ebay.com as they told me..my question is if there is a way to transfer my old information and feedback from the first account to the new one ..thank you!!!!!!!!!!

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Anna Maria,

      Thanks for stopping by.

No, you can’t transfer feedback from one eBay account to another – that’s IMPOSSIBLE!

But why did you open new account at all? You can use one eBay account and login on any eBay regional site, with same details. And if your address has changed, you can always change that on eBay too. You don’t need a UK address to sell on eBay.co.uk – anywhere in the World can sell on eBay.co.uk

      Hope this helps!

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  38. technologycorrect says:

    Hello Andrew,

My name is Dashawn Jackson & my question is more of in the advanced category. I’ve been selling on eBay for about a year now, I’ve been blocked numerous times for receiving bad feedback. So now i kind of got the just of why eBay block people so i’m more of a careful seller, However my recent eBay seller account has been restricted indefinitely, Not the entire account just my selling account. I used a Paypal account to receive funds from this eBay account but i never went into my eBay preferences and clicked “Link Paypal Account”. I noticed that you said if you connect existing accounts i risk getting all of them blocked, But neither was my eBay or Paypal account blocked, it was my eBay sellers account. So my question to you is ” Can I just simply keep using that Paypal account with seven more eBay account with out worry?” Also, even if i do not link my eBay to my Paypal account is it still Linked secretly by eBay? I appreciate Your help.
    Dashawn Jackson
    Thanks

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Dashawn,

      Thanks for stopping by.

eBay sees everything what’s going on PayPal as they own the PayPal company.

You don’t have to link accounts on eBay for them to catch you.

Even more – it takes just one LOGGING (not even payment) from same computer for them to automatically link those accounts.

So don’t worry – eBay already knows all about your various accounts and PayPal account. Will it get banned? Not sure, no one can tell but there’s a chance, yes.

Sometimes it happens days, weeks and even months after they ban the eBay account so you’ll just have to wait and see.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  39. Hi,
I have a paypal account that was already linked to my work for purchasing purposes, which I have removed the card to link to a new paypal account for business purposes outside of work. The business paypal got banned. Will my work paypal get banned too if I link up a new credit card with same address?

  40. Sorry and to add to the above,
if I change the banned paypal address, including the bank address, will it still affect my work account if I then add another new bank card?
My paypal account for work is absolutely crucial. It is to make purchases only and will have very few transactions.
I was just wondering how I can avoid getting my work paypal from being banned. Should I change the address on the already banned paypal, or do I change the address on work paypal. Do I need a new credit card in a new address? and change the current paypal with my work? Or start completely new and open a new paypal with new address and new credit card.
    Thank you.

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Brenda,

      Thanks for your comment.

Chances are that eBay already has linked your two accounts so it won’t change anything that you will try to trick them now.

The good news is that eBay often are ok with buying accounts and only ban selling accounts. But this will depend on the reason why your seller account was banned?

Was it policy breach, feedback or counterfeit goods?

      • no, it was because i went on vacation and the shipment wasn’t on time. And so I had a lot of open cases and claims. However once i got back, I refunded everyone and I have no more opened cases but they still closed me. So I think the only reason they closed it was because I had a lot of open cases. All the transactions were less than 15 dollars, most around 3 dollars.
And so even if I add another credit card to my work account they will know? Even if it is under a new address? because my work account is under a different email with no cards attached.

        • Andrew Minalto says:

In that case there’s a chance that you’ll be ok with using that account with a new card and different address.

But it’s hard to know for 100% as eBay logs IP addresses too so if you used (logged into) your seller account @ work just one time, they “could” link them.

          Thanks,
          Andrew

          • Thanks for your reply Andrew.

Does paypal work exactly the same way as ebay? My paypal is linked to my work website so I never had to sign in from home at all. Should i change my work paypal address so it wont be attached to my already banned paypal?

          • and if i just change my address on my credit card that I have never attached to my work ebay, will they still be able to look up my previous credit card address?

  41. Andrew Minalto says:

    Brenda,

As I said, I don’t know what you should do as there are no guarantees and at the end of the day – PayPal & eBay can do whatever they want and ban you anyway.

eBay owns the PayPal so they can see if you’re using several accounts at same time. That’s why I said that it could be that they already have linked those two accounts. Not saying they will def. ban other account but there’s a chance that it can happen.

You won’t be able to “un-link” them now if they have already been linked.

    Hope that makes sense.

    Thanks,
    Andrew

  42. HI Andrew,

I have 2 ebay accounts but one is borderline getting axed due to the ” star ratings”, have 2′s in 3 categories with a 3 in one. ( these were unfairly given , I think a lot of people just click on a star and think they’ve been fair just giving one)
Other than that one bad feedback ( again, unfairly given to me ) and all else is good.
In any event, the other account is in top notch condition…no problems.
My question is, if I close out the one borderline account how much waiting period is there before I can start again, what all is involved and would they close out my other account also if I were to just want to close the one ?
I’m thinking of doing this to start a clean slate and prevent the ax from coming down on me, I need this income badly and truly am a good seller.
    Thank you !

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Sally,

      Thanks for stopping by.

Is the performance for that account Below the standard?

If so, you can’t close that account – eBay won’t let you do that until you improve it’s performance.

And if they decide to suspend that account, chances are your other, good performing account will be closed too.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  43. Thank you Andrew,

It is considered standard at this time but hovering on becoming below standard for like I say, I have 2 low DSR’s in 3 categories and one category that has 3 low DSR’s.
I am wondering if I should just close the whole account ( only the one with the low DSR’s) now or just the sellers portion of it ?
If I were to close just the sellers portion then would the low DSR’s be able to work against me in any way per the other perfect standing account and the new seller account I would create?
I just don’t know if I should now close the acct. entirely or the seller portion for want to be perfectly sure I would be in the safe zone all the way around.

I’m just trying to be proactive for anyone leaving future star ratings ” could” push me over the edge for ebay does not want anyone to have over 3 low DSR’s in any area.
I’m seeing now where Ebay is suspending accounts with just maybe one or two low stars in a category or two, folks that have better star ratings than I do at this time.
I really need to keep 2 good accounts going for two separate niche reasons.

    • Andrew Minalto says:

I don’t know Sally, I have no personal experience with a situation like this.

If you can (eBay allows you), then probably yes – it will be safer to close that account down altogether. No point in leaving a buyer account as those you can open as many as you want.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  44. hi,
i read your article and still confuse, is it allowed to have multiple personal paypal account, why am i doing so is i have a debit card and i want to purchase something online. However i cant pay with my paypal through the debit card (but it works if i have money in the paypal itself) so i think its a good idea to set up another paypal account, link my debit card in the new account and fund my original account.

It doesnt work anyway, but i just want to know if i would get ban because of that?
    Thankyou

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Cho,

      Thanks for your email.

YES, you can def. get into trouble by doing this as with PayPal (by rules) you’re only allowed to have ONE personal account.

If you don’t have a credit card, just add your bank account to your PayPal.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  45. Hello,
I have a regular eBay account registered on .com and linked with my paypal account. Now I want to open 2 more accounts on different ebay site – .co.uk and .it with different contacts info and I want to link them with another paypal account with different contacts info. My question is it possible to get banned for this? and will my first ebay and paypal account get banned too if i use the same computer for all of the accounts?
    Thanks in advance!

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi George,

      Thanks for your comment.

By eBay rules you can have as many accounts as you want, so can’t see any problems with doing what you want to do as long as all the contact, address, personal etc. info is legit.

But don’t take my word for it! Contact eBay and ask yourself.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

    Hi Andrew,

I linked 2 bank accounts to my paypal account and I want to use 2 different email addresses. One for each bank account. I read that it’s possible but I can’t find the step by step on how to get this done. Can you help?
    I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks in advance,
    Denise

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Denise,

      Thanks for your email.

If you have a business PayPal account, you can add additional users to your account. I believe that’s what you want to do?

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  47. hello !
I have a question about refund i buy too many things in ebay , but no always I am satisfied or sometimes o do not received the item never . So last two months i have buy more than 40 items in ebay and i have received to many refund because the quality of product which usually comes from china are to poor also i have never receive some item . It is problem that i have received to many refund from sellers last two month i am afraid may my account in ebay will block . Thank you

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Egli,

      Thanks for stopping by,

Yes, too many refunds could cause your account being banned on eBay and PayPal.

No one knows exact percentages for this but I’d say if out of 40 transactions 10+ are refunds, chances are you’re already drawing PayPal’s attention to your account, so be careful from who you buy stuff online.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      • hello , thank you for your answer but i do not have other way the only way is to get my money back so why pay pal or ebay should being banned me i think i have get more than 12 refund and at this moment i have not received any notification from ebay or pay pal.

        • Because they also try to protect sellers from scammers who buy stuff online and ask for refunds, for no reason.

12 is a lot but as I said, they *COULD” ban you. No ons knows for sure what their formulas are for this. So you just have to wait and hope that they won’t close your account down.

          Thanks,
          Andrew

          • But i have facts that i have never received the items and i have also fact that the item that i received from china are so different from the photos the quality is too poor , they should protect me and no seller.

  48. Helllo. First sorry for my english :)

I have a question about selling items on two difference private accounts on ebay. Now i have one private account where Im selling clothes . But can I open another, second account for selling the same ?
    Thank you.

  49. I’m not sure if you’ve answered this, but it’s a pretty unorthodox question from what I’m seeing in other threads.

For the last 3 years, my boyfriend has used my ebay account and subsequently my linked PayPal account (SSN) to sell on eBay as his primary income. He treats it like a business, but it’s not a store or a business account in any way. We are in the process of separating and he would like to be able to keep the eBay account (Top Rated Seller, 100s of feedback) but attach a new PayPal account so that the income is no longer reported in my name. Is this possible?

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Grace,

      Thanks for your question.

As far as I know, it’s possible to transfer eBay account to another person if it’s part of a selling business deal. But you have to contact eBay anyway to find this out.

PayPal is easy, he just opens new account on his name and uses it.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  50. Hi,

I have one question, I had 1 ebay account with 550+ 100% feed backs and it was top rated , power seller I was selling mobile cases on it, then I opened another paypal account and ebay account 2 months ago but didn’t tell ebay and paypal that I have another account, I keep them separate but some how they got linked without my knowledge,

Suddenly ebay put restriction on both of my accounts and they said it is indefinite restriction? I can buy and both paypal work fine but can’t sell ? Do you think this restriction will be lifted ? or will they consider apeal on this my fault was listed same item same listing on both account which seems like breach of ebay listing policy?

    thanks

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi There,

      Thanks for your comment.

This: was listed same item same listing on both account which seems like breach of ebay listing policy?

It is indeed a breach of their policy and a BIG ONE! In eBay eyes you have tried manipulate search results with two identical listings for same product, from different accounts.

Plus you had 2 PayPal accounts which again is against PayPal terms and conditions (you can have just one personal PayPal account).

Only thing I can recommend is calling eBay and try to explain situation, that it was a genuine mistake etc. It’s your last option really.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  51. Hello,
My question is a little different. My husband and I have had separate ebay and paypal accounts for several years. This year (2013) I will stop selling a little before I reach $20,000 threshold and 200 items. My husband has also listed a few items—not much, maybe $1500 total for the entire year.
My question is, will paypal send us a 1099 if our accounts total over $20,000? Again, we have separate ebay, paypal and bank accounts. We do file our taxes jointly and have the same home address. Other then that, we do not mix our finances.
    Thanks,
    Erin

    • I am so sorry, I just realized that this is a UK based website. My 1099 question would not apply here
      Thanks,
      Erin

      • Andrew Minalto says:

        HI Erin,

        Thanks for your question.

Yeah, I’m not really sure how this works in the US so you’ll have to look for answers somewhere else.

        Thanks,
        Andrew

  52. Hi Adrew,

I read the article, very useful and many thanks for providing such a useful information.

I have one question. I have one ebay account linked with my Paypal account. For my this ebay account eBay has suspended my seller account. Can I link my friends eBay account with my Paypal account?

    Regards,
    Muhammad

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      HI Muhammad,

      Thanks for your question.

In a word – no, don’t do it! eBay will link these two accounts and ban your friends account too.

      Sorry about that.

      Andrew

  53. Andrew,
I sold for about 3 months on Ebay and got 3 neg feedback’s in the same evaluation period (with low dsr’s). Ebay slapped me with an indefinite suspension. I have since gotten 2 of the neg feedback’s removed and replaced with 5* pos feedback’s but Ebay says my selling privileges are still going to remain suspended.

Shouldn’t I get my selling privileges back like the cs rep said would happen but still hasn’t?
    Thanks in advanced-
    Mark

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Mark,

      Thanks for stopping by,

All you can do really is call eBay and try to resolve this on the phone. Be persistent and maybe you manage to get your account back in working order.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  54. SOME ADVISE TO CONSIDER WHENEVER COMMUNICATING WITH EBAY OR PAYPAL CUSTOMER SERVICE——–

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT IF YOU CALL EBAY FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE OR WHATEVER THAT YOU PROTECT YOU SELF FROM THEIR BELLIGERENT HABIT OF PROVIDING ***SELLERS*** WITH SUGGESTIONS/ADVICE/ANSWERS THAT ARE COMPLETELY INCORRECT AND LIKELY VIOLATE THEIR POLICY…
SO WHAT I STARTED DOING WAS CALLING THEM USING GOOGLE VOICE ON MY COMPUTER SO I WAS ABE TO RECORD THE ENTIRE CONVERSATION WITH A FREE AUDIO RECORDING PROGRAM (freeaudiorecorder.net). THEN IF AND WHEN EBAY CUSTOMER SERVICE PROVIDED YOU WITH INCORRECT INSTRUCTIONS THAT EITHER RESULTED IN NEGATIVE FEEDBACK, A BUYER PROTECTION CASE, LOW DSR’s OR RESTRICTIONS/HOLDS, YOU WILL HAVE SOMETHING TO SLAP EBAY IN THE FACE WITH… ALWAYS ASK FOR THE REFERENCE NUMBER AT THE END OF EACH CALL AS WELL AS THE NAME OF CS REP BEFORE THE CALL IS ENDED.

SEVERAL TIMES I HAVE CALLED EBAY AND THEY HAVE TOLD ME ONE THING, I FOLLOWED WHAT THEY ADVISED ME TO DO, WHICH LATER CAME BACK TO BITE ME IN THE ASS… EBAY ONLY NOTES THE REASON THE SELLER CALLED, NOTHING TO DO WITH WHAT THE REP INSTRUCTED THE SELLER TO DO TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE.

IF YOU DECIDE TO PROTECT YOURSELF AND RECORD YOUR CALLS WITH EBAY THEN MAKE SURE YOU DONT MENTION THAT YOU’VE RECORDED ANY PREVIOUS CALLS BECAUSE THEY WILL END THE CALL IMMEDIATELY… UNLESS OF COURSE YOU ARE SPEAKING TO A MANAGER OF EXECUTIVE ESCALATIONS AGENT.

SORRY FOR THE LONG POST, BUT EBAY IS LIKE THE ONLY CHILD THAT NEVER PLAYS FAIR AND IT PAYS TO BE ONE STEP AHEAD OF THEM WHENEVER POSSIBLE.

    GOODLUCK

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Mark,

Thanks for sharing this, it’s a great tip!

And I can totally agree that sometimes eBay customer service doesn’t know what they’re doing and giving wrong advice!!!!

      Thanks again,
      Andrew

      • hello there Andrew

So how do you know what is the right advice off ebay if you are a novice like I am.

Just been reading all of the issues on ebay and there is so much hurt etc.

SO I was wondering about this last comment.

How can you know if its wrong or right. Plus after you have recorded the message when do you tell them that you have recorded the message. Etc.

        Thanks

        Lisa

        • Andrew Minalto says:

          Hi Lisa,

As a newbie, you can’t know..

Sad, but it;s true. It takes years to learn eBay inside out and even then it’s not easy to keep up with all the latest changes.

I would recommend you simply reading eBay’s official guides here:

          http://ocsnext.ebay.com/ocs/home

          Thanks,
          Andrew

  55. hello, I have my personal ebay account permanently ban from selling. Will ebay ban my new, but this time business account? What if I provide different address on both of them? I am not sure with which address I should open my business to avoid restrictions. I can do it with my home address, same as blocked account, or completely different office one. what do you advise to avoid limitatoon on bussines account? Jakub

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Jakub,

      Thanks for your comment.

Yes, most likely they will ban any new accounts you will open in future, even if it’s a business account.

The address change alone won’t help as eBay has a record on your emails, IP address, credit card, bank account etc.

So effectively, you would have to move to a new location, get new bank account, credit card, PayPal account etc. and then you can pretty safely open new account without getting banned.

      NOT easy!

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  56. Dear Andrew,

You have an awesome site and you seem to have good insight into ebay and pay pal.

I have a question. I know its been asked before here but I just need to clarify something.

Can I have more than one PERSONAL ebay account and link each one to my pay pal account. (do i have to link it to pay pal or another account).

You have said we can open as many accounts as possible but no mention if it was business or personal.

2ndly my pay pal account is my debit credit card. It is not linked into transferring money in and out of paypal areas. So from my understanding they can’t withhold money from me. Is that right.

Plus through paypal, and the way my credit card is set up, can they stop business or restrict income if it goes over 20K. That is the amount that has been flashed around on this page.

The reason I am asking this is, when they send me a record of my pay pal finances (not that I have many transactions lately,or not at all actually as I havent used it for a while, it doesn’t really show much.

So would they still be able to see my money come and go etc when i start up selling products.

Another question. Do you have to have a business account if you are selling products on line for your own income but not have a business as such.

Do I need a business no. etc to do this.

    Hope this makes sense.

    Thankyou for your time.

your post is really good. I have been looking for information all over the place today and finally found your page with so much information due to so many questions being asked.

Thank You for giving so much to many people.

    Kind regards

    Lisa

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Lisa,

      Thanks for your comments.

Will try to answer your questions one by one:

      1) Multiple accounts – you can have un-limited personal AND business accounts. So yes, it doesn’t matter what type, you can have both as many as you want.

      2) Not sure on what type of account is that to be honest. You want to have normal PayPal account, premier type or business so you can receive PayPal and credit cards via PayPal for business.

      3) Business account – yes, on eBay you’ll need a Business account but with PayPal, you can use Premier or Business account (up to you which one).

      Hope this helps Lisa!

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      • Hi

All I gave paypal was my credit card no. Not my bank details.

        Does that matter.

        another question.

how many ebay accounts can you link into pay pal? IS there a limit.

        I don’t have a busines account yet.

I am learning about ebay and how it deals with business and whether it is worth having a business account. I won’t right now though. Maybe later.

        thanks for your time.

        Lisa

        • Andrew Minalto says:

          Hi Lisa,

You can have up to 8 email addresses added on your PayPal account. So you can use same PayPal account for up to 8 eBay accounts (each will have it’s own email.)

          Thanks,
          Andrew

          • Thank YOu lots Andrew.

I am hoping I will understand It more as I go on.

            Bye.

            Lisa :-)

Ps you have certainly touched on something here that people are searching for and needing help with. Its amazing how long these messages have been going on for from the time you first started your post.

Excellent Post. Cool answers and good knowledge.

  57. Sam Alikic says:

    Hi Andrew

I would like to ask you if eBay links sellers only through the IP… so last 3years i was selling as a top rated seller on two ebay accounts pretty smoothly until i over time received a suspension for “Low Seller Performance” it is not the most serious of offenses but it takes my complete selling privilege for life.. & i can only buy with those accounts… so next few months i opened everything new(ebay accounts, new address, computer name, bank account, credit card, etc) except i still used the same ip address coz my internet provider kept the same one… now am i linked automatically to previous user coz now days ip address can be used by many people and perhaps logging in their ebay accounts as well.. can you pls tell me if ebay might take my new accounts down soon bcoz of this ?? I;m getting really worried.. THX so much bud!!

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Sam,

      Thanks for stopping by.

No, eBay doesn’t only rely on IP address. As you say, there are now public access internet points, shared Wi-Fis etc. where IP will be fixed for many, un-related people. So I highly doubt eBay bans accounts SOLELY based on a previously banned IP address.

They use cookies, IP, name, address, card, bank account, email addresses to track you down and link accounts. So if you changed everything else, apart from the IP address, you should feel fairly safe.

I can’t give you any guarantees though as there are chances that you have left some other evidence (like using same PayPal account or same domain name etc.)

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  58. Hi Andrew,
Can I just ask if by any chance you can increase the limits for sale before having to wait for 90 days as a seller?
I am paypal verified but my first sold item was a month ago.
I have now requested a higher increased limit. I ‘ve been told I need to wait a few day and I will receive a code. And there is a chance for my increase limit to be accepted.
One of my colleague said that after received that code , she had the limit up to 100 items / month.
At the moment I ve got a limit of 10 items /month , but only allowed to sell 5 items on the wanted category .
I would be interested to know if there is anything I could do to have my account with no limits without having to wait another 60 days.
Could you please let me know if there are more options.
    Regards
    Terezia

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Terezia,

      Thanks for your comment.

Yes, these limits will vary based on your account status and category you want to list. In general, best way to lift these limits is simply to list max number of allowed listings (10 in your case) and then wait for first 3-5 feedbacks to come in. Then again list max allowed listings and simply call eBay and ask them to remove the limit or at least increase it.

This has worked on most occasions for my customers.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  59. Hello Andrew. I have a question and I hope you might be able to help me.

I use an Ebay account for shopping only, I don’t ever sell. I have positive feedback and everything is okay.

With Paypal, two things are happening. One, the account is going to get over the 500 limit. Which I am not sure what it means, I Do Not have my bank linked to the account, I only pay with the paypal account so it is not linked. But the 500 dollar limit is close.
The second thing that happened is that i had a change in my name and Paypal is asking me to fax information about it. They won’t just let me change the name.
My question is, Can I just open a new paypal account with the new name? but using the same card to buy stuff? I don’t really want to fax them anything and I don’t want to link the account since my name has changed anyways. I am just not sure, Can I still use my ebay account with a new paypal account? Do I have to fax them the name information and Link my bank so that the limit is lifted?

I wanted to just make a brand new paypal account but Still using the same ebay account Ive used for years.
Would I have to open a brand new Ebay account if I opened a new paypal account?

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Bobby,

      Thanks for stopping by.

You can’t open new PayPal account as each person can only have 1 personal PayPal account. If you open another account and PayPal links these, you can get banned altogether from PayPal.

So just don’t risk and send/upload scanned documents they ask from you to change the name.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      • what happens when a girlfriend or a family member makes a new paypal account using your address or same computer? would it get banned too?

        • Andrew Minalto says:

          Hi Bob,

Yes, from what I have heard, PayPal will ban such accounts too.

PayPal looks at HOUSEHOLD accounts and if someone in family makes a mistake, everyone pays for it.

          Stupid, I know.

          Andrew

  60. Hi,
My husband recently passed away. It was very sudden and unexpected. He had an open case on ebay and due to his passing the timescale for replying passed by and ebay refunded the buyer. Ebay has since suspended his account and are now sending harassing emails demanding money and threats of bailiffs and court action. This is the last thing I should have to worry me at this time. Yes, the amount is small, but it is not my account and I have just lost my husband. Ebay policy appears to be get the funds no matter what. What usually happens in such a situation?

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Finlay,

      Thanks for your comment.

      So sorry about your loss…

You should contact eBay via phone and explain the situation – I’m sure there’s some kind of policy in place when things like these happen.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

    • My husband has been selling on Ebay since 2006 he was diagnoised with cancer and was sick for a few month before he passed away in 2013, I closed his ebay store for 6 weeks after he passed and opened it up again and continue to sell and keep the store open so I can sell the inventory that we have left, my question is this I can no longer be selling under his name and would like to have the ebay store and paypal account under my name for tax purposes, how do I go about doing this.

I sent paypal an email saying I wanted to change the name on paypal account, Paypal says I cannot change the name on his paypal account but I can open my own paypal account or I can close his paypal account which I don’t want to do since right now I took over my husband business on Ebay and have 14,600 feedback…

I have my own paypal account and when I tried to link his ebay account to my paypal account it said that there was already a ebay account under that name, I was also selling on ebay with my own Ebay & Paypal account, 3 weeks after my husband passed away Ebay banned me forever from selling on my own account, I know once you are banned you are banned from all accounts, I had gotten 7 neutral feedbacks when my husband died but when I explained this to Ebay that my husband was sick for a few months and had passed away they wanted to see his death certificate and when I faxed it to them that wasn’t good enough for them they wanted to see records that my husband was sick in the hospital during the month of June and July, too me that was adding insult to injury I was already devastated over the loss of my husband and I was in mouring I didn’t want to go thru the trouble of getting records to prove that my husband was sick and dying in the hospital and that didn’t even guarantee that they would reinstate me so I left it alone I didn’t need the extra stress, so can you please give me some advice so I can continue to sell out the inventory that is left, I just don’t know how to get his ebay account to my paypal account and just hope they don’t realize that’s it’s me selling on my husband account …thanks

      • Andrew Minalto says:

        Hi Sherry,

        So sorry for your loss…

I’m afraid I can’t help you much in this situation – obviously you can’t continue selling from your husband’s account, that’s against any rules.

And you can’t change the name for eBay account too. Basically, that 14 600 feedback account is lost forever as you can’t use or transfer it to your name.

If you would want to continue selling on eBay, your only option is to open your own eBay account. But as you said you were banned by eBay (for what reason?), I don’t know what to suggest really..

        Andrew

        • Thanks for your reply, I got banned with my own ebay account because I had gotten 7 neutral feedbacks out of 850 positive feedbacks no negative, I got them because my husband was rushed to the hospital several times by ambulance and I couldn’t ship item as fast as I could and seller performances was affected by it, Ebay refused to reinstate me even thought my husband died and I was crying to them to please give me another chance, Ebay does not have a heart, they give no chances they treat every situtation the same.

          • Andrew Minalto says:

So sorry to hear about your loss Sherry….

It’s a real shame eBay doesn’t use more individual approach in such situations.

            Andrew

  61. Hello,
I am From India & I wanted to close my personal paypal a/c to open a new premire paypal a/c because there is no option of upgrade to premire a/c. Paypal customer care representative (India) also suggest me to do so. Will there be any problem to open a new a/c with old paypal email address, old bank a/c no.,old debit card no.(of my current paypal a/c which I want to close)?
    Thanks!
    Pravin (India)

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Pravin,

      Thanks for your comment.

Are you 100% sure that there is no upgrade option in your account?

I really don’t know how it works in India as here we have a simple upgrade option for personal accounts to upgrade to Premier or Business account.

If PayPal tells you have to close down that account and open new one, then you probably should do that, if there’s no upgrade option available.

As for same email, card, bank account etc, – you should also ask them about this. Chances are you’ll need new email, card and account.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  62. Hi Andrew,
I have learned more from the q&a you provided here in an hour than I have learned in months about eBay and paypal. Thanks so much for that !

    And here’s my question:
I have my own 2 eBay accounts, linked to same PayPal , no problem with that personally.
But now I also have 2-3 clients which I start selling for, which I do not want their cash flow to be mixed with my personal selling and buying. So I opened separate accounts for each client, linking them to a new PayPal account on my name, on a debit card.

1). I now understand from all the above that I must change my clients PayPal to business . What I don’t know is whether a business account on pp costs money to handle.
2). And also , what is best to do in my case do when they sell for others in terms of separating the implications and cash flow from my personal account versus clients? have all the clients in one buisness paypal account? or is it better to open separate accounts for each?

Or what would you personally do, as a suggestion ?

    Many thanx

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      HI Meital,

      Thanks for your comment.

      1) Yes, as you can have just one personal PayPal account – all others should be business accounts. No, there are no extra costs or monthly fees associated with having a business PayPal account.

      2) To keep it simple, accounting wise, I would probably just use one business PayPal account for all clients and assign new email for each account. Just so you cane easily sort out payments by client, using email as main filter.

      Hope this helps!

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  63. So I have had my eBay account suspended after having it for about 3 years and selling consistently for a little over a year. I was a power selling made @ $4,000+ dollars a month. My brother also had a eBay account which was suspended a few months ago. They then linked my account with my brother accts and suspended mine indefinitely too. I have already tried to get it back and explain that we are not connected. I’m at stay at home mom and I used my eBay income to help support my family. I am trying to start a new eBay acct but want to make sure I am doing it correctly so that it will not be suspended later.
So my question is how does eBay link you? Is it the actual ip address for your individual computer? If so we have 3 different computer, 2 iPads, and 3 cell phones..,.can I just change devices? Or do they track you some way with the Internet connection or modem. Any help wld be greatly appreciated. Thank you

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Nita,

      Thanks for your question.

eBay links accounts based on IP addresses, home address, credit cards, emails, bank accounts used on accounts. And probably few more things we’re not even aware of.

I would recommend you check out this forum to learn more about how to safely open a new eBay account:

      Thanks,

    • Hello

I had the same issue but i changed all the details which included internet, email addresses bank account details etc except the name and DOB and opened a business account. Paypal still asked my details as a director for which i was bit worried but luckily nothing bad happened. Running this account form last 2 years now and everything seems fine.BTW i bought that stealth book which helped me a lot.

  64. Hi. I was wondering if there is a way to send my feedback ratings on one eBay and transfer them to my new account. My old account got restricted from selling video games for reasons which make no sense so I’m just trying to make a completely new account. I really wouldn’t care if my old account got restricted as long as I can carry over my feedback rating to my new account. Thanks

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi There,

      Thanks for stopping by.

No, I’m afraid you can’t transfer feedbacks from one account to another. You have to start with 0 feedbacks when you open new account.

      Hope this helps!

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  65. Love you site- I currently have 4 different ebay accounts all generating roughly 10k a month profit- tax time is round corner and would like to know since I’m in canada what’s the best way to claim this since to register a bsuiness in ontario canada you most make more then 30k, can each account be its own business? As I don’t want to link all four accounts with one bsuiness account- currently they are going into different bank accounts different names etc.
    I’d appreciate help:)
    Thanks

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Mike,

      Thanks for stopping by.

I’m not 100% sure how it works in Canada BUT here in UK, we can set-up as many Ltd. (limited Liability Company) as we want and use them for separate eBay businesses.

So if you have 4 different eBay accounts, you should be able to set-up 4 separate companies to keep everything simple and under control.

But as I said, I’m not familiar with how it would work in Canada so you’ll want to check this out at your local company registration house.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  66. dear andrew

    please can you help me

i would like to use one ebay account for selling two lines of products. for example ipods and cameras.
i would like to use two paypal accounts for this as it makes it easier one paypal account for ipods and the second for cameras.
i could edit in the listing where it asks for “email address for recieving paymet” in one listing i could put one paypal email address and in the second i could put the other.

would this be an issue at all.

2 here it gets a bit more complicated. i would like the paypal account for the cameras to be in a different company name which is run by a friend of mine. would that be okay as well.

the reason he would like to use my account is that it has a high feedback score

    please let me know

    thank you for your help

      Hi Alex,

      Thanks for stopping by.

Technically I think this is all possible and will work. BUT it’s probably against eBay’s and PayPal’s T&Cs so if something will go wrong, your set-up will go down the drain….

Usually it’s not a good idea to use other people’s accounts for any kind of business online.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  67. Hi Andrew,

I stupidly got my ebay account suspended. I have opened another account but if I link the same paypal account as before will ebay flag it and suspend my new account?

    Thanks
    Luke

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Luke,

      Thanks for your question.

It doesn’t matter whatever you’ll link same PayPal account or not – eBay will ban your new account anyway.

Once you get banned from eBay, it’s for life (in most cases) so any new accounts you’ll open, will also be banned.

That is unless you do it the black-hat way.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  68. I have just received a letter from a debt collection agency regarding unpaid fees on my ebay seller account. I sold an item a few months ago and the buyer requested to return the item because she believed she had paid too much for it. Before I had a chance to respond, ebay refunded my buyer and allowed her to keep the item worth £50. I was not notified of this at any time by ebay. I have checked my emails and spam folder and no email has been received from ebay. This is why I am so shocked. Now, my rights as a seller have been suspended, as has my husband who has a seperate account. Today is the first time I have heard any of this and now I am being threatened with court action and large fines. I do not feel I should have to pay these fines as I was not given the right to respond to my buyer personally. Ebay is quoting their rules at me, but what about mine as a seller? Surely I should have been told of this action before it came to this? Is there anything I can do, or will ebay succeed in stealing money from me? Yes, I do believe this to be theft.

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Harriet,

      Thanks for your comment.

I’m sorry to hear about your situation… Money was probably returned by PayPal when buyer opened a case against you. So eBay will not send you information on that, only PayPal. If you wanted to claim back eBay fees, you had to initiate a case on eBay that sale has been cancelled, then you would get back part of the fees.

I’m afraid there’s nothing you can do about it and it will be better if you just pay the fees. On a £50 sale it should’t be more than £5 or so?

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      • Thanks for your reply. It is appreciated. However, Ebay is asking I pay the £50 plus £5 seller fees. They decided to refund my buyer without telling me. I have checked all my email folders and at no time since the sale in October 2013 has Ebay contacted me. I assumed everything was fine. I did not receive feedback from the buyer, but that happens sometimes. It appears my buyer decided they had paid too much for the item and requested refund which Ebay agreed to without telling me. Now they are demanding I pay them for the refund they issued without my knowledge. The buyer did not return the item, nor did Ebay ask them to. So I do not have the item and a debt collectors bill for £55. Is there anything I can do? Ebay will not listen to be as they do not believe I did not get emails from them.

        • Andrew Minalto says:

I’m sorry but you can’t do nothing about it….

You agreed to eBay’s T&Cs when you signed up with them and I’m 100% sure they’re playing by the rules.

          Andrew

  69. I have 3 ebay accounts one of them I do not use at all because I had zero sales unknown why. The 2 accounts I do use, one business for buy now and one private for auction listings.. My D.S.R are almost perfect with 100% feedback on all accounts. I am baffled as to why my sales can stop for a few weeks and then start again. On my business account I am a top rated seller and the others are standard. I would really appreciate your advise. thank you.

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Chris,

      Thanks for your comment.

It’s hard to say why exactly sales stop and then resume after some time. Sales can fluctuate quite a lot based on many factors, including seasonal factors, even weather and of course how well eBay’s search algorithm is performing.

You should monitor your listing views (in reports) and if there’s a sudden drop, chances are your listings drop in search results. Then you can manually check how well it ranks in search and see if any new competitors are beating you on price/offer.

Sometimes it’s just eBay glitches in search system.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  70. Hello andrew
First thing i would like to ask is that if its okay to use different Ebay and paypal accounts from the same Mac? i am running 3 different Genuine accounts from the same MAC but from 3 different user accounts.also the internet i am using for each account is different too.so i am hoping they can’t track my Mac address…?
secondly, what if i want to sell my registered company (business) to my friend,on which i have a business paypal.what would happen to ebay, paypal if i transfer that company to my friends name?can that be transferred to friends name too ?its because even it’s a business paypal, they still have my details as the director of the company.

Thanks very much for your cooperation.

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Usman,

      Thanks for stopping by.

      1) You can have as many eBay accounts as you want, so there’s no reason to even hide the fact that you own multiple eBay accounts. With PayPal, you can have one personal and un-limited business accounts. So if they’re all genuine accounts, again, there’s no need to hide anything.

      2) It is possible to transfer eBay account when you sell your company (not sure about PayPal) BUT you need to contact eBay and ask their permission for this. I would also recommend you contacting PayPal and ask whatever your business PayPal account can be transferred too.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  71. Geri McDonnell says:

    Hi Andrew,
I received a permanent ban from selling on Ebay as my dispatch time dipped below standard. Every other section is fine and my overall feedback score is 100% and that’s for over 1,000 transactions. I did debate this with Ebay and received conflicting advice and there were loads of inaccuracies in their replies. When I pointed this out to them they stopped replying. I don’t feel I have done anything that warrants a permanent ban but have been told I cannot appeal this and Ebay’s decision is final. I would have accepted a temporary ban or a warning that one of my scores was becoming close to below par but the first I knew was when I received a message telling me my selling powers had been revoked.
Is there anything I can do?
    Geri McDonnell

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Geri,

      Thanks for your comment.

Well, if you have already addressed this issue with eBay and tried to sort it out, not much you can do now…

It’s strange tough that this came to you at surprise as you should see this coming from your Dispatch DSR?

What was your DSR score when eBay banned you? And what was your actual average dispatch time?

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      • Geri McDonnell says:

        Hiya,
I hadn’t noticed my DSR score was going down. Ebay initially said they had warned me it was getting close to being below par, which was untrue and when I challenged them to prove it they backed down and said they hadn’t.. All my items were listed as dispatch within 5 working days as I work full time. Despite that I still had people contact me and threaten to give me bad feedback if I didn’t send the items sooner. This actually led me to report a buyer for intimidation. When I pointed this out to Ebay they weren’t even interested. When I pursued this with Ebay and asked for more details on why they felt the need to shut down my account for such a small issue they told me “Also, for privacy policy, I’m afraid we’re not able to provide specific information about what led us to take this action. By revealing this, we could help members’ intent on breaching our site policy and avoid being detected by the system. ” So they won’t even give me a definitive reason why. After doing a quick search online I have realised I am not in the minority here as Ebay will shut down people’s accounts at the drop of a hat.

          • Andrew Minalto says:

            Hi Geri,

I’m sorry to bring this up but 5 days dispatch time on eBay is simply not viable nowadays… it’s no wonder your account was banned as I’m sure your DSRs for shipping/dispatch were very low..

Even people who work try to offer 1 day dispatch times and simply process orders at evenings to drop off at post office following morning or during launch break.

Sorry about that but not much I can do to help you.

            Thanks,
            Andrew

          • Geri McDonnell says:

Hi Andrew, If 5 days dispatched wasn’t viable then why was it an option? I have noticed that Ebay have changed this now but at what point does it become the seller’s responsibility to read the listing properly? It was clearly stated. I work from 8am to 5pm with no nearby post offices and I don’t drive. I sold for over a year so obviously many people were more than happy with this. I understand there is nothing you can do as Ebay seem to be a law unto themselves.

  72. Hi Andrew,

Does ebay allow multiple users to access the same account (I don’t believe they can use different logins, right? )? If the store gets big and I want to assign different people to handle different products, what’s the normal way to do it? Thanks,

    Peter

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Peter,

      Thanks for stopping by.

No, eBay doesn’t offer multi account feature (PayPal does so for accounting stuff you can add extra users to your business account).

The way around this problem is to use 3rd party software that allows such multiple accounts, like:

      http://www.linnworks.com/

This way several people can work on same eBay account.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  73. Hi Andrew,

Thank you for having this blog and for taking questions. First I want to let you know that I am just a BUYER, only interested in buying (have never sold anything), so this is a Buyer’s question.

The problem I run into, along with others is that some sellers want to require buyers to link their ebay account to their paypal account in order to bid. From comments I’ve read a lot of people don’t like the “mandate” and it’s doesn’t feel right. I could understand if sellers want buyers to have a certain number of positive purchases under their belt or something like that; I’m a good citizen—I purchase in good faith and I pay on time.

My question is this: Since multiple ebay accounts are allowed, would it be possible to have one ebay account—with the different email address with my office address that would only be used for these purchases that require that linked paypal/ebay account marriage and still keep my other “unlinked” ebay account for my regular purchases.

I really don’t even want to get into multiple accounts of any kind; I see too many posted issues with that; I just want the freedom to BUY freely.

Isn’t it enough anymore that I pay with my paypal account shipping to a verified address?

I really don’t understand the Sellers’ “mandate”; is there any way to be able to BUY freely on ebay without getting married to paypal?

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi There,

      Thanks for your email.

To be honest, I don’t know – I have never tried doing this as I have never seen any problem with linking my accounts…

You can try of course, won’t cost you anything!

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  74. Dear Andrew..
My Account has been suspended some couple days ago.
Can i use another ebay account and can linked with paypal..
If i remove second one ebay account too from that Paypal.
I want to link 3rd one ebay account from another IP..will this act
    be helpful for me..

    Thanks

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Mansoor,

If your eBay account is suspended, any new accounts you’ll open will be linked to you and suspended too.

Sorry, but changing IP address alone won’t help either.

      Andrew

  75. I open cases on my paypal bacuse my sister ebay account is block ( I used my sister ebay acocunt for shopping, she doesnt have a credist cards , paypal and she needed some feedback,)

Now i am woory about if my siter account is block , can paypal block my paypal acocunt, or can get my refunds from paypal???

I bought 6 dresses from two different seller on 23/02/2014 ,but after my eBay account block on 24/02/2014, I have not received my dresses from those seller, Although I bought many items from those seller and I did not have any problem before, until my Ebay account blocked.

Those 2 Sellers did not sent my dresses, and did not refund me.

I checked my paypal account and it shows that this dresses post on 26/02/2014.

I sent seller message that i have not received my dress, seller sent me message that she did not sent it to me , because eBay sent her message to do not send my item,

After that i asked her for my refund , she sent me message that eBay do not allow her to send me refund and my dress ( I do not believe that).

And last message she sent me that she posted my dress and if i ask for refund, she will report it to me on ebay and paypal.

I only want from seller to send me post receipt if he/she sent it to my address below, IF SELLER HAS A POST RECEIVED THAT SHE SENT IT TO ME , I DO NOT WANT my REFUND from seller. I will claim lost item on Royal mail.

IF SELLER DOES NOT HAVE POST RECEIPT then I WANT TO HAVE MY FULL REFUND, PLEASE.

Do you think can i get my refund on paypal, if Ebay account is blocked.

    Kind Regards

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Merdan,

Yes, you should be able to do that.

Open up cases on PayPal and see how it goes. Sellers should provide you with tracking numbers, if not – they will have to refund you.

      Andrew

  76. Dear sir,

My ebay account is suspended now i change my IP and my address and i make other ebay account.. should i link my old paypal account with new ebay or no …. if i add new mail address in paypal again the ebay will know me or no…. i dont know can you tell me instruction what should i do??????

    thank in advance,

    • and one another question… if i close my paypal account and after some days i again open a new paypal account by the same bank account but the name which is shown should be changed…for example: banke account name is (amin) and the paypal id names will be (fahad) ..is it possible????????

      • Andrew Minalto says:

        Hi Amin,

I’m sorry, I’m not really an expert on how to hack PayPal/eBay and open further accounts after bans.

But in your case, yes, they’ll link you anyway and ban new accounts too – it’s not enough to just change an email & IP address – they will still track you down.

        Andrew

  77. Hi. I made mistake. I have my Ebay account linked to my Pay Pal. Then my husband wanted also ebay account and we opened to him and linked it to my PP. Some one bought from my H account, but as it was linked to my PP money went to my PP. After this I found about Ebay banned system and refunded money to buyer, opened PP for my husband and linked his Ebay account to his PP. But his account has 3$ of fees (10% of the deal) and at the end of the month Ebay will bill him with this and money will be taken from new his PP. The question is: can Ebay see that the money were sent from account Ebay for one name and PP for different name? I saw you told it is forbidden for husband use wife’s PP. And question after 3$ will be billed can I safety close his account?

  78. I don’t want to be banned. How to better behave in this situation?

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Evgenia,

      Thanks for your comment.

So as I understand, you’re just worried about how to pay that $3 eBay fees bill at the end of month?

In your situation, I would actually call eBay and explain the situation BEFORE their automated algorithm doesn’t play a trick on you. Just explain the situation and ask for advice – how best to resolve this situation. They’re not as evil as people make them look so give it a try!

It will be so much easier to sort this out NOW, rather then when your accounts get banned.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      • I ready pay 3$ it ok. I worried that Ebay can see that one time (right now they are not liked in my husbands account) I linked my PP and my husbands ebay account. I guess it will be ban for love. Thanks.

  79. Hi, Andrew-

I’ve been an Ebay and PayPal user in good standing since 2003 – not one negative mark.

I maintain a modest Facebook page for my business, and last fall I decided to go ahead and promote a post for $5.99. I got a decent amount of hits on the post, and I figured that was that. When I checked PayPal a month later, I saw my account had been cleaned out. Facebook had been withdrawing odd daily amounts every say, for numbers like $34.12 or $11.45. In all, they’d taken over $300 out of my Paypal account, and then my bank fed more money into Paypal to continue paying them.

I contacted Facebook and received no response, so I disputed, I want to say, a good 12 transactions, all from Facebook, on my PayPal account.

The dispute was resolved in my favor and my money returned, but then PayPal suspended my account permanently for excessive disputes. Obviously, I’m pretty sore about this because Facebook’s quick refund indicated to me they knew they were in the wrong -otherwise they would have stood by their withdrawals. As far as PayPal is concerned, I’m just a person who accepts goods, pays for them, then disputes the payments.

My Paypal account is suspended for 180 days, and I think it’s pretty outrageous. All emails seem to be handled by someone using a script, and “our decision is final.”

Any advice? I currently am not using Ebay because I can’t accept or make payments via Paypal.

It seems a case of blaming the victim, no?

    Thanks!

    J

    • Andrew Minalto says:

When you do advertising on Facebook & attach PayPal account to it, they take money from your PayPal account automatically to cover ad expense. This is how it works and I’m sorry that you didn’t read the rule properly before you started advertising on Facebook.

As for PayPal account – not much you can do right now as in PayPal eyes you really are the bad person who buys service and then asks for money back.

      Sorry about that.

      Andrew

  80. Hi,

I had a question about business accounts. I have a business and premiere account with paypal. My business account is used for a nanny agency I run which is a limited company. This paypal business account is set up with payment pro and I have a virtual terminal where I process telephone and fax credit card payments.

I also rent out a holiday let and have been using my premier account to process these payments. I used to send my guests a paypal button and they would make payment that way. However I have now started listing my property on booking.com and they work differently. When you get a booking you log into the site where you access the guest’s credit card details and have to process the payment.

Ideally I would have liked to open another paypal business account with payment pro on this account to process these payments but I don’t think you are allowed two business accounts. What is the solution? Can I process the payments through the existing business account (nanny agency) even though this is a different line of business?

Currently the rental is not a registered business although I am willing to register it and get a separate
Business bank account but not as a limited company as this would mean doing two sets of accounts, paying my accountant twice and this would rise my costs significantly.

Any help would be much appreciated

    • Andrew Minalto says:

You can have multiple PayPal business accounts, that’s perfectly fine.

You’ll just need to register it as a business (doesn’t has to be a Ltd.) and get a business account.

Then you can simply sign-up for a new PayPal business account.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  81. Dear ,Andrew Minalto,

my one ebay account was suspended then i make another one again the second one is also suspended now i make the third one and i send the whole documents but again there is some restriction on my account….what should i do if you give us some instruction when my account will be ok and when will my suspended will be end…..????

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Amin,

If you’re banned on eBay for life, then it’s for life. You can open as many accounts as you want – if eBay links these new ones to you, then they will get suspended too.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  82. Hi! I started to sell on Ebay month ago. I bought several things and sold 6, but I got one first negative feedback (buyer doesn’t want to revise feedback) and one positive feedback, and all together I have 94% positive feedback score. What will be with my account? Suspension? Where can I see my DSR scores?
    Thanks

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Kate,

Negative feedback so early in your journey is not good of course…

But I don’t think eBay will suspend your account of just one feedback IF you continue selling and get lots of positive feedbacks.

With that being said, starting with a negative feedback is not the best way to go so maybe just open a new eBay account and start all over again.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  83. Hi Andrew,

Thank you for your article it was very informative and sum up some of the concerns.

I have question and hope you can help me:
I live in a country where can not receive money on paypal, but my cousin from neighbouring country can. I need paypal since I’m doing many online freelancing. Can we do following scenario:
    - he already has verified paypal acc, searching paypal site, there is option to have multiple e-mails on 1 private PP acc and multiple bank accounts linked to them. Is this true? It seems I can not find exactly info on how to do that since I want my cousin to open another bank account and link it to my e-mail address and then send me that debit card so I can withdraw money in my country. He will register my email address to his paypal acc. To sum up:
    - he will have 1 private PP acc, 2 emails and 2 bank accounts each linked to 1 email address. Debit card from one bank account will ship to me so I can use it.

    Thank you in advance.

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Petar,

      No, that’s not possible.

While you CAN have up to 5 emails on PayPal account, you CAN’T link each one to it’s own bank account.

At the end, all money from all email addresses end up in account and are mixed up, which you can then withdraw to card/bank account.

What you could do though is keep your payments tracked, so you know exactly how much you have made, and withdraw those amounts to a separate card, which is sent to you.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  84. is it also possible to use in one pay-pal account, a buyer email and a seller email?

because if i buy something on ebay with my buyer account to sell it back on ebay, i don’t want the seller should see from the payment that i’m his / her competition,

    • Andrew Minalto says:

yes, you can do that by setting one email for eBay seller account and using another/defgault email as a buyer as your default email will always show up when you buy something via PayPal.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  85. Hi Andrew,

Firstly, thank you for all your help & expertise.

Ebay now only offer 20-Free listings per month for Private Sellers. I am therefore restricted in how many items I can list per month.

My current Selling account has very good feedback. When I open a NEW Private Selling account (to increase sells), can I explicitly refer to/acknowledge my 1st account (In the Item Description) to aid Buyer Confidence?

For example: “For Buyer confidence, please see my other account ‘xx’ where I have lots of positive Feedback”

Is this possible? Or would there be potential problems?

    Many thanks,
    Alan.

    • Andrew Minalto says:

      Hi Alan,

No, you can’t do that – that’s against eBay rules.

As for 20 free listings per month – this is just a BONUS eBay started now to get more listings up and running from private sellers. It doesn’t mean you can’t list more. You can – then you just have to pay insertion fees for those extra listings.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      • Thanks Andrew for your answer & time.
        Alan.

        • Hi Andrew,

Firstly thank you for helping people and being so kind!

I am sending this email behalf my friend who really needs help!!! I am just trying to help him as he doesnt know what to do. He has an ebay account with a limit of 10 items and want to sell more items. Is it possible for him to open others ebay accounts using the same Paypal account and what should he do it?
Does he need to keep the same name+adress and create a new email address to register AND Then link the existing Paypal account to those ebay accounts. If yes, I assume that he doesn’t need to open another bank account and link it to another Paypal account.
Last question, does he need to contact paypal to link those new ebay account and get permission?

What about an account that has been indefinitely banned. Is there any chance that this account will work again after a certain period of time. Please note that the paypal account link to the banned ebay account still works!

          Many Thanks for your help:)

          • Andrew Minalto says:

            Hi Julia,

eBay allows their users to have multiple accounts so that’s not a problem really. Your friend can open more accounts not worrying about anything. But those new accounts will also have limits placed so I would recommend thinking twice before doing it. What’s better – to wait a bit and have one established account, with no limits and more feedbacks OR to have multiple small accounts, all with limits and less feedback for each? I’d say the first option is better in long term.

Take a look @ my recent guide on eBay & PayPal account limits here:

            http://andrewminalto.com/ebay-selling-limits/

If you have banned account, it can’t be re-used after while, no. And if your account was banned for life, eBay will also ban any new accounts you open now if they link them to you.

            Thanks,
            Andrew

          • Thanks for your quick reply,
Actually the account was opened last summer time in 2013 and has 1 neutral & 1 negative feedback (99.1% feedback) The negative feedback was received 8 months ago and the neutral was received about 6 months ago.
Feedback rating is 103 in all and stars are quite good as they are nearly gold.

He actually has 25 items monthly selling allowance (sorry for the mistake) and really need more items to sell. How long does it take before eBay remove the limit and lift to 100? You said it’s better to have an established account with no limit but how long that will takes approximately?

Do you think that the new accounts will have an impact of eBay decision to lift the limit? and is it better not to open new accounts?

Last question, does he need to Contact eBay to lift the limit once the rating becomes 100%Feedback?

Thanks again for your help. You are a star!

          • Andrew Minalto says:

Usually these limits last for 90 days of active selling when eBay sees that you’re getting good feedback in, no disputes etc. limits are lifted.

But as this is not a brand new account, simply contact eBay and ask what you need to do to lift the limit, simple!

I don’t think new account will affect this situation in any way.

            Thanks,
            Andrew

          • Thanks,

I saw on some forums that when you call eBay to lift the limit they may close your account. Is it true?
What questions do you think they may ask you?

            Thank you very much.

            Hi Julia,

This is first time I hear of this – why would they close the account?

This could only happen if you have other suspended accounts and eBay tracks you by phone number or other details you give away on the call.

            Hello Andrew,

My sister has an ebay account and I asked her to sell a Fiorelli bag but it was removed by ebay because they explained that she didn’t have the permission from Pauls boutique to sell it??

She called ebay to ask why does she need to contact Pauls Boutique and the bag is a different brand. That doesn’t make sense?
The lady explained her that Paul B. tracked her auction and she didn’t have permission to sell it on ebay?
She asked the adviser about others sellers and if they have permission. The adviser said that they do need one.

Then, my sister contacted Pauls Boutique and they told her that that they don’t sell this brand and that must be an error. She was bit upset and told the adviser that she was going to contact Pauls Boutique to check that information. The adviser said that she will find an email on the message and be able to contact them.

On the same day, they restricted her from selling item on Clothes, Shoes & Accessories section for NO reason . She has 100% Feedback and good seller rating.
No auction has been removed or no infraction has been made so she was shocked. I feel bad because that was my bag and now she is scared to call them in case they will ban her for ever!
Please help, as I really want to help her!

            Sarah.

            Hi Sarah,

Sorry to hear about this but how can I really help?

            I’m not working for eBay….

She will have to try to resolve this situation by calling eBay again and explain what’s going on…

I can’t see any other way around this. Only option would be to maybe open a new account, but it will be put under default new account limits anyway…

  86. Hi Andrew,

First of all thanks all of your help!

I have some questions. I established a company for selling on the internet. I would like to open 8 different ebay account with different names and email adresses, but I would like to add the same business paypal account to each one. Does the ebay lets me do this or it would banned out thiese ebay accounts?

I am sorry because of my Ebglish, I am not a native speaker…

I am waiting for your answer:
    Thomas

      Hi Thomas,

      Thanks for your comment.

You can’t use same email address on 8 eBay accounts BUT you can use same PayPal email for payments – for all listings in these 8 accounts, yes.

      So this can be done.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  87. Hi Andrew,

I have a question regarding a buyer and seller account on ebay. Currently, I only have one account which I set up around 10 years ago. I been using it mostly for buying items on ebay, but have sold some items in the past. My husband and I have separate PayPal accounts. This year we decided to get serious about selling, so my husband registered a business name with the county we live in and we also changed our one account on ebay from personal to business. The items we’re currently selling are linked to his PayPal account which is different than the email I originally registered with.
I want to open another account for buying items only. Can I change the current email to his PayPal email as the registered email and open a new account with that email I had set up originally? This email links to my PayPal account, so I can buy out of my account and he can sell out of his account. Looking forward to hearing back from you.
    Best regards,
    Chris

      Hi Chris,

      Thanks for your comment.

Yes, you can change the email on eBay – that’s not a problem. Just follow this guide:

      http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/account/change-account.html

Not sure whatever you can then register a new eBay account with that old email though – it could be that eBay keeps it in the system and does not allow registering a new account with same email. But you can of course try that and see if it works. If it doesn’t, just use a new email address and add it to PayPal too.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  88. Hi,

I had an ebay account linked to a Paypal account back in 2012 and the ebay account got suspended, but the paypal was fine in good standing. I would like to know if I can link another ebay account to that same Paypal account which was linked to the prevouis suspended ebay account?

Bear in minds the new ebay account was already link to another paypal and I just want to do that to avoid 200 items sold and 200 transaction Tax Fee
