I’m Turning 30 today!

b-dayYep, today I turn 30… and I’m starting to feel old.

When you’re 20, you think that 30 will never come. But as we all know, time really flies by and you reach 30 sooner than you ever expected. But now I think – 30 is not that bad, when I’m 40 – then, yes, I really will be old, lol. I’m sure this will happen every 10 years until I’m really old (I mean 80+) and still feel too young for my age!

Do I feel 30 today? Yes actually, I do. As I don’t do things an 18 year old does anymore. I don’t go to clubs, do binge drinking or stay awake late at night just to watch a movie. When you have a family – a wife, 2 kids, a dog, and a house to watch, clubs somehow don’t seem that appealing anymore.

And that’s fine, I like 30. It’s nothing like 40, right?

I like to look back each December – to see what happened in the previous year, what goals I’ve achieved, what new experiences I have added to my lifelong portfolio but when I look back at the last 10 years of my life – there are so many things that has happened that I would need to write a book about it!

Don’t worry; I’ll leave the book part for now though. I don’t think a biography written by a 30 year old could be considered a real biography. There’s still time for that.

10 years ago I was an order picker in a Primark warehouse, renting a single room in a shared house.

warehouseBut I had that one big dream – to create my own business and become wealthy. Maybe not a millionaire but to make enough money to be happy and to support my desired lifestyle.

Very few people know that I actually ‘sacrificed’ many years of my youth STUDYING! No, not at university – instead I was studying in my bedroom, with a laptop and crappy dial-up internet connection. I was preparing myself for the journey I started later on, the journey that changed my life around 180 degrees, from my unsatisfactory days as a Primark order picker to the life I currently enjoy today.

I spent every evening and every morning before work (plus every weekend) reading various courses and websites about eBay, eCommerce, internet marketing, branding, and every other ‘make money online’ opportunity out there.

Most Friday & Saturday nights, when my friends went out to the pub or a club, I stayed in my house and was glued to my best friend at that time – a laptop. I stayed up late nights (with the help of a few pints) and just tried to find that golden opportunity.

It went on for several years until I realised that learning alone won’t make me rich. So I started one business after another one – mostly online based with some crazy offline ideas mixed in.

Nothing really worked as I expected until I somehow figured out that I wanted to sell on eBay. That was it – the introduction to selling physical goods online that changed my mindset completely. When you make that first sale on eBay you realise how REAL it is and how you can make money simply by buying and selling things. This was finally something I could really do!

I’ll keep the rest of the story for my book, but I just wanted to point out that we’re NOT stuck in life! We can change our lives in any direction we want. You need real desire to change things and then everything is possible.

A few weeks ago I visited the Primark warehouse – my first and only workplace. And I was shocked, really shocked.

It hasn’t changed a bit since I left 10 years ago.

Ok, they have a new voice controlled order picking system now but I’m talking about the people who work there. Most of my work colleagues are still there, doing the same job, every day, for the last 10 years and more.

Unfortunately I also found out that two guys I knew have passed away in recent years… It’s still hard for me to grasp this – how can it be that we all started from basically the same point but life ended so quickly for some…

It’s all about the choices we make in our lives I guess. Some people have very clear goals they want to achieve and they just work towards those goals until they reach them. Other people just go along with it and let life dictate their story.

I’m not saying that working in a warehouse is a bad thing, not at all. Maybe some people are totally happy with their work, pay, yearly holidays and weekends to spend as they want. That’s perfectly fine.

But IF you’re not happy with your life and what you’re doing right now, no matter how old you are, PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

Don’t let your life just pass you by.

Years can’t be turned back and every day you spend in a job you hate is a day wasted in your life.

my-family

My story is real life proof that you can start from absolutely nothing and become successful with hard work and patience. Yes, it took me almost 10 years to achieve it but keep in mind that I’m a lazy person by nature and that I wasted too many years procrastinating.

You can do better.

You can do it faster.

You can do it smarter.

If you’re really honest and ask yourself – what’s holding you back from achieving your life long dreams? The answer in 99% of cases will be – NOTHING!

Only you stand between your current position and your dreams. Only you and no one else.

Ok, I’m starting to sound like Anthony Robbins so I’ll stop right there, lol.

You get my point.

Today is my 30th Birthday so I will celebrate.

Also – I wanted to take this opportunity to say a BIG THANK YOU to all my customers, blog readers and business associates. You know who you are – if you have done any business with me in the past, this THANKS goes to you!

thanksI couldn’t have done even 10% of what I have without all your help and support. From the bottom of my heart – thank you very much for being such good people to work with and I look forward to continuing working with you for the next 10 years and beyond.

Have a drink on me and enjoy your weekend!

Best Regards,
Andrew, 30.

      Thank you! 🙂

  2. Hi Andrew,

Inspirational stuff and you are completely correct, you could write a book on the journey that life took you on before you decided to take control of your own destiny. I think it would be interesting and a lot of people could learn from the motivational side of your story and in turn how they could turn their story around.

As someone who has only just started on his journey of personal freedom and about to launch my first product after a couple of years of study and, yes, prevarication, I take great comfort from those who, like me have endured baptisms of fire or even just the apprenticeship of learning which experts to trust and those who claim expert status without the justification.

Another fact that I find reassuring is just how many UK experts I am able to find now. Amongst all the internet guru ‘noise’, the loudest voices have always seemed to be our cousins from across the pond and they talk a different language!

Whilst a lot of the really great and inspirational marketing experts are indeed American, the emergence of more and more UK influencers allows me to truly connect with their experiences and it somehow makes the possibility of making a success of my business that much more achievable. I don’t know if you have found this in your experience.

Like I said, I think you should write your book, I think you would find a hungry audience for your story of your journey so far.

    Regards,

    Mark

      Hi Mark,

Many Thanks for your kind words and comments.

The book will come, someday as right now I’m way too busy with other stuff.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  3. Happy belated birthday Andrew,

Ive been so busy with me and my wifes IVF treatment and my own birthday which was the 25th May that i forgot about yours,

  4. Rikki Collins

    Hi Andrew,

    Happy 30th birthday!

So i am an 19 year old man and i am inspired by the way you have turned it around, i started work in a warehouse 2 years ago and currently i am still employed there. But i don’t want to just get by, i want to make that extra money and live comfortably. Is it really as easy as buying and selling on ebay or could you give me any other tips and tricks to “making it” online or offline.

    Thanks,
    Rikki

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Many Thanks Rikki!

The only tip at this stage I can give you is – start doing something. Something real and right now. Too many people (including me at your age) over-think simple concepts. Don’t.

Just pick one idea, one concept and get it done. Start real small – the smaller idea, the better as you’ll see results super fast and that will motivate you to move forward. Don’t start another Amazon or eBay!!! Pick a small niche and just make it happen – whatever it’s physical products on eBay, Amazon, eCommercer or content, affiliate website.

      Start today.

      Good Luck!

      Andrew

  5. Hi Andrew,

A belated happy birthday from Denmark!

After seeing alot of etoro adds, it finally intrigued me enough to look into what it was, and then I stumbled upon your guide. Well worth the read and differnately got me turned on to try it, but I saw you are going to release a yearly update soon? I figured I would wait and read it through before starting, if you will be posting it within a few weeks.

    Best regards,
    Jack.

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Jack,

Yes, I hope to get it done in next 2-3 weeks so stay tuned.

Nothing major has changed though so my original guide + 2013 update still works.

      Thanks,
      Andrew
