You can def. start on eBay or both eBay and Amazon. You need to check whatever there’s demand/sales on Amazon for the items you plan on selling and then decide.
But eBay is a great starting platform for you anyways, as eBay is so much more popular in Australia than Amazon.
Hello Andrew, Ben here I am a single dad with no business skills, I have just watched your Amazon video above and there are 2 things that are making me nervous, please could you give me a little more info on Labeling and Branding, I mean do I just call up a Chinese manufacturer and ask can I put my brand name on there product, that brings me to my second question I feel a bit out of my depth when it comes to Manufactures, as I said I ain’t done nothing like this before so i don’t even know the first steps to finding one, so any information on finding the right Manufacturers would be great, oh one more thing once I find a product not sure how much to order to get me started, as video shows if I don’t meet supply and demand my ratings can go down and is near impossible to get ratings back up. 1) Branding – yes, you basically ask supplier/manufacturer to do that for you. But it’s usually not just simple labelling – usually, you want to print the logo directly on the product as well as create a custom packaging. Again, suppliers will assist with this.

I wanted to ask, we are already selling on Amazon, and to protect our products, we are in the process of registering a trademark. Once the trademark is issued, we would like to list using the Brand Registry and the enhanced Brand content, would it be a case of creating completely new listings or could I ‘switch up’ our existing listings. Apologies if I’ve missed it but couldn’t find that information.
No, no need to create new listings!
You will apply the EBC to your existing listing, don’t worry about that.

As for importing from China and Brexit – it shouldn’t change much as China is not part of EU (obviously) and all shipments from China go through Customs anyway. So I can’t see any major changes there (apart from delays of course which we can’t predict).
As for selling in Europe – things will change if Brexit happens, yes. Amazon will have to stop their Pan-European program as they won’t be able to distribute goods freely across EU anymore. But that doesn’t mean we won’t be able to sell in Europe anymore. We will simply have to send the stock to EU warehouses on our own. Also, I’m confident that Amazon, over time, will create some sort of new system to help sellers with this – with shipping goods to EU countries.

I wanted to know that if my country of residence is not on the amazon UK support list but I have a UK bank account that I have not used for years but still valid and can I still register as a seller. I tried to register but even though my citizenship is accepted to register as a seller but my country of residence is not. So it means you can become a seller if you were resided in approved list no matter which citizenship you have. In this situation, I would like to ask you if I register a company in the UK, even if I’m not resided in UK, will I still be able to sell?
You need to contact Amazon support and ask them about this – you have to be 100% clear about your situation, there’s no point in providing false information as otherwise, you won’t be able to verify your account later on.

Just wondering with the Jungle Scout Web App subscriptions, I’m looking at the lite package as I wouldn’t need so many products tracking at once to start, but it doesn’t include the niche hunter. Is the niche hunter an essential tool in your opinion or what package would you recommend for a startup seller?
I would recommend going with the middle plan when you’re starting – at least for the first month.
You can always change your plan later on but in the beginning, you want to explore all available tools and make most out of them.
Im looking at making a bit of extra income from buying and selling from a site that sells graded returns and clearance stock (gem wholesale) and would just like a bit of advice. eBay will be a better place to sell such returns/liquidated stuff. Amazon is more suitable for brand new products using the private label model.
You can, of course, try it on Amazon and maybe you succeed, I don’t know as I have never been involved in that business model.

Yes, of course – you do need to invest money to make money in the retail World – that’s how it works. The more money you can invest AND be smart about it, the quicker results you will see. It’s super easy for someone with a £100k budget to pick 10 to 20 products, get them to market and basically from month one generate a decent return.
With that being said, most people don’t have £100k just sitting there in the bank account, not even £10k. I have worked with THOUSANDS (seriously) people over the last 15 years and I can reveal that the typical amount of money most people have saved up is £1k to £3k. And they just go with that! Yes, it limits your choice of products, yes, it will take much longer for you to reach decent sales or replace your salary BUT it can still be done with a limited budget. It just takes more time.
As for the costs you have listed there – you don’t necessary need Amazon Sharks program, if you have plenty of time, you can learn this game on your own! There are so many blogs, forums, YouTube videos teaching Amazon business!!! Yes, it will probably take you 3 to 6 months and say 1000 hours of research but you can get there for free. You also don’t need Terapeak, Jungle Scout is perfectly fine and enough.
The absolute minimum I recommend is £1k – from that approx. £500 will go to stock purchase and £500 for tools, listing creation, branding, initial PPC costs, images etc. With a smaller budget, you will really struggle to get anywhere. If you have £2k or more, that will open up more choices in the product selection process.

1) There are many courses out there so I can’t really comment on all of them. What I can say is that Amazon Sharks is THE most comprehensive Amazon FBA course I have seen offering BEST support and longtime value. Many courses are filled with “empty talk” while my course is 20 hours of step by step video lessons covering from A to Z the Amazon FBA business model. This included DETAILED videos on product research, importing, branding, listing creation, PPC and many other topics. PLUS I do offer my PERSONAL support, not just a Facebook group like many other courses do. Lastly, you get all future updates for free, for life.
2) Yes, of course. I have almost 15 years of experience with importing from China – I have personally worked with hundreds of people, hundreds of suppliers and know exactly how to find the best and most reliable suppliers in China. All of that is covered in detail in the course.
3) You can start with a small budget Ron, you just have to be prepared to be patient and don’t expect profits quickly. Hi Andrew. Thank you in advance for all the help. I am new in Alibaba.com. I am confused about Trade Assurance. I found a supplier that quoted me a machine with door to door shipping terms. I have asked for a pro-forma Invoice. However, the supplier failed to provide the shipping agreed terms (DDP) and instead on the bottom of the pro-forma invoice stated shipping terms (EXW) and also failed to summit a detailed description of the machine as I requested. I asked the supplier to modify the PI within the Trade Assurance parameters. Furthermore, the supplier modified the PI but failed again to summit a detailed description of the machine. It only provided a machine picture plus basic information (machine name and model #) In the other hand…although the supplier only modified the shipping terms by written the words “shipping: door to door” doesn’t describe the usual shipping acronyms term (DDP). Also, at the bottom of the PI still shows the (EXW) shipping terms. I am very confused about this since this could be interpreted to benefit the supplier. My other question is…Does Trade Assurance only option to pay is T/T or do they have more secure options like PayPal. Should I continue or cancel this order and look for another supplier? Thank you for your advise and time.
It all sounds dodgy to me…. it’s obvious that the supplier doesn’t want to do this properly and I personally would not continue an order with a supplier acting like this. It seems that they do everything they can to “save themselves” in case something goes wrong. I would just look for other suppliers.
No, you can’t do PayPal on trade assurance orders.
I managed to make it to the end of your excellent video, packed full of handy tips. However, you burst my bubble when advising against selling branded products. I appreciate the reason, but I am coming from a slightly different perspective. The products I am interested in are branded and a popular brand at that. However, I am an unemployed programmer and there is a programming element to these products with an opportunity for development in the future. At the very least, to be a technical expert and not only a sales person. This in part where I believe I can add value. However, in the meantime, I need income so that’s what I would concentrate on. I am lucky that my personal overheads are low. So, the question, would it really be that bad to sell branded products under these circumstances?

IF you can add VALUE, it could still work. I don’t know the product but if you create some sort of unique bundle/kit/set of branded products AND add your own skills, this could work yes. For example, you can buy iPads but have them totally re-programmed to do a specific task or whatever – it could work, yes.
As long as what you do can’t be easily replicated or copied by others.

No, you can’t – you have to be 18 years old to open an Amazon sellers account.
Regarding FBA shipments in Amazon i would like to ask you any clue why the oversized if your warehouse is located in Mi , Amazon send the stock to CA or VA or WA please?
I think they have some warehouses that are specialised in over-sized items and that’s why they do this.

Hi, I have just opened an eBay shop, after many years as a buy as you sell. I am now selling much less and paying more fees. I am not sure whether to battle on with the shop, or go back to p.a.y.s. Not sure why the shop is not performing, I have promoted items on there, but it doesn’t appear to make a difference.

I can see your site has a lot of info, so I’m going to have read it detail, but I do have two questions about ebay that I hope you can answer.I have toapologize in advance for the lengthy explanations – My first one has to do with ebay fees. I’ll use a real time example.
I was cleaning out my stuff and came across several old VHS tapes. I created an ebay listing where I priced each one at $2 canadian plus shipping. When I posted these, I didn’t know how much Canada post was going to charge for shipping. I later found out that Can Post would charge ~$18 Can !!!! to send these across the country. So my question is, would I even make any money selling these ? I estimate that my fees, and bank fees would be about 25% (this includes conversion fees to USD, paypal, visa, etc etc. So now I’m thinking if I sold one for $2 + $18 shipping, I would be paying fees on $20 (approx $5) ? But I’ve only got these listed for $2. Is my thinking correct here ?
My second question is this – I recently had two items pulled from ebay because of copyright infringement issues (these were pulled first and not really explained to me). They were small metal models that had pieces that were lasered from razor blade thickness metal foil. I emailed the person that filed the complaint, and he told me that he had copyrighted two brands to sell similar models under. He gave me an example of why my listings were removed, but his example was poor. He quoted a literary work and said that if he had copyrighted Harry Potter, I would have to remove any Harry Potter type listings. I looked up the US Copyright office and read their mat’l. The person that complained was right about Harry Potter, but I got the impression that he was using his complaints and his copyrighted brand names to protect his own listings and eliminate competition.
So my question here is this – If I am selling/listing a product similar to his, but I am not using either of his copyrighted product brand names, can I still list them ? The US copyright office states that if its a literary work, and he’s the author, he/his work is protected under copyright, but he is trying to stop anyone from making a similar product. It looks to me that he actually needs a design patent. I see many items listed on ebay where a person has listed an item as a branded item, and then right beside them is an identical item (unbranded). Is this person correct in shutting down all competition, or is he stretching it to falsely eliminate similar products ?
I don’t sell on eBay anymore BUT as for your calculations – you just need to set the item’s price higher if you want to make any profit. Don’t list it at $2! It’s also hard to believe that shipping a VHS tape within the country will cost you $18? There should be a cheaper method….
As for trademark issues on eBay – basically, if they have registered under the VERO program, they can do whatever they want – eBay will take down those listings if they report them. And I don’t think eBay spends much time by looking into each specific case here – they just act safe and take down any listing a VERO seller reports. At least that’s my impression.

You mean – how to physically get products to Amazon? You simply send them to Amazon warehouse using a normal courier service or shipping company – in a box or a full pallet or more.

Essentially it is the same thing – via private labelling you create your own branded product.
But in my content, I usually use private label for a situation when we create our own brand, import products from China etc. but use “branded product” in cases where OTHER, well known brands are selling that product (like Nike, Apple, Sony etc.).

Yes, why not?! Your location when doing an Amazon FBA business DOESN’T really matter! Your customers don’t really care where you’re located! When you use FBA, all they know and care about is that they will get their free Prime delivery and Amazon support system, that’s it.
So don’t worry about that, just go for it! 🙂

Hi Andrew, may I have another question please. When it comes to searching for a good product and evaluating sales and price of a potential product, is there any minimum limit to filter by, considering the UK market specifics (e.g it would not be worth it to sell a product which does not generate minimum 300 sales per month/200 sales pm; not worthy to sell a product for cheaper than £15…). US sellers and Jungle Scout videos advise new sellers not to go below 400 sales, 20 usd and over 50 reviews when researching new products but when I set these criteria on amazon uk only few products come up. It seems the volume of sales is much lower in the UK and price lower than set in the us for similar products. Thanks again for all your valuable information. Zuzana
Do you have my Amazon Sharks course? In it I go in detail on how to approach UK market, what numbers to look for etc.
It’s hard to give detailed answer on this via a blog comment but yes – sales numbers on the UK site are much lower compared to the USA so we need to lower those filters used, compared to the US.
Also – it depends on your budget/buying power – smaller budgets will need to look into cheaper, smaller items with not that big competition and sales while with bigger budgets you can look into more expensive and aggressive markets.
So it all depends on various factors and your personal situation.
hi Andrew, I cannot find a response to a very important aspect of a product launch process on Amazon. In order to boost sales and to get to page 1 of the search result, one needs to get quick sales of the product. Amazon US sellers create giveaway campaigns and offer heavily discounted products on various 3rd party websites which result in high initial sales. this does not seem to be possible in the uk. is that correct? what can be done on Amazon uk to boost sales of a newly launched product you’d recommend? many thanks, Zuzana
It is possible to do same thing in the UK – using Jump Send, Viral Launch and other services which have UK option.
But this tactic doesn’t work anymore – it’s almost useless. It is only good for getting initial reviews in.
To get real boost in rankings, you want to sell your products at real price using PPC or traffic outside the Amazon marketplace.

Yes, it’s an online based video course – all videos.
I do limit number of people I take in as I have to provide support to all Sharks – and I do it on my own, I don’t outsource it.

A friend of mine has his own branded electrical goods that he sells through his chain of stores in the Middle-East and wants me to help him import into the UK.Most of what I’ve read about Amazon FBA
emphasises the importance of the size and weight of the product as being key.
In my opinion it’s not viable, no – at least not large electrical goods which are brand dominated in the UK, like televisions.
Small electronic devices/gadgets/tools are fine though as they’re much easier to deal with and in most cases these products are not brand dominated which means you can do well with your own brand.

There are specific ways I do set-up this messaging so that customers are not annoyed and they actually LIKE receiving these messages and they do go out and leave seller feedback and product review for you. In short, you need to send them a valuable free gift/bonus, customise messages with your branding/logo, make it really personal and then the success rate is pretty high. Just one quick question for you… you called this the “Best opportunity of this decade…” “I’m talking about the Amazon UK Market” …. Would you say the same thing about the Amazon US market, or am I missing the boat?
I’m sure there’s still lots of opportunities on the Amazon.com too, but it is more competitive than the UK market or EU markets.
It is much bigger too which is a big plus of course as you can go after more long tail keywords/products and still get very good volume of sales.
All in all – with the right attitude/work ethic, you can still get on and make it a huge success on Amazon.com! The easy days maybe over there but it does not mean that money is not there.
Hello Andrew I am a seller on ebay who is sick of competing with others who claim to sell authenic, 100% pure essential oils and it is either junk or not real! So then my business of the real deal, quality is then untrusted or overpriced! How can I get interest and trust from others besides me supplying paperwork from my oils that are tested.
I also have competition from the brand names who are legally not suppose to sell on ebay either! Any information would be greatful!
If you sell higher end, premium product version compared to cheap imitations on eBay, it will be very difficult for you to attract high sales volume as eBay’s search algorithm is heavily price driven, as I explain in the video. You can create the World’s most amazing listing but you won’t get high up in search because your price compared to similar items is simply too high. You can and should try Promoted Listings feature but it does not really guarantee you that much, apart from “vague” increased visibility.
A product like yours should do really well on Amazon, where people are paying higher prices for high quality products. Especially if you say that your stuff is so much better than competitors – it will show up in reviews!

Have been working for someone else for the last couple of years but would like to get back to being in control of my own destiny again. The desire and drive is there and with the opportunities on Amazon UK the time is now.
I have a question about finding suppliers. The point of finding a supplier in China is obvious from a cost point of view but do you have any experience of or think it’s possible to operate a private label business by sourcing products within the UK. I’m not ruling out sourcing from China but like the idea of UK made products. Do you think such products might attract a slightly more premium sales price on Amazon to make up for higher supplier costs?
Yes, it is possible for some specific product groups with good manufacturing traditions.
Just like there are products you can safely source from Europe – like cosmetics (nail polish etc.) from Poland, Germany where there are good cosmetics manufacturing companies.
And there’s another option – becoming a manufacturer on your own – which I personally do and talk more about in Amazon Sharks course too.
The options are there – it’s all about execution! 🙂

No, not really.
Jungle Scout is enough. I just mention how Terapeak can be used for people who have Terapeak subscription. It can open up new product opportunities but usually people can get enough product ideas using Jungle Scout alone.

On average how long does it take to go live with a product from research to execution? I already have JS and have been researching products for the last 2 wks. I cover Branding and Sourcing/Importing in great detail in Amazon Sharks course, you don’t have to be afraid of these processes. My videos will guide you through this process step by step.
As for how long it takes – depends on the shipping method use but usually it takes about 2-3 months from day you start work on the market research till day you make first sales. But that is only average of course as it can also be done in 2-3 weeks, if you put a lot of time and effort into this and ship goods from China via courier.

I’d like to start selling on Amazon uk but I am confused with VAT requirements. I am based in UK, I will import from China and I will use the FBA to avoid having to handle parcels.
Do I need to register for VAT if my turnover will be under the 80k threshold? I’m talking about goods that are not VAT exempt.

No, you don’t have to register for VAT and you don’t want to do it until you reach VAT threshold.
People who live OUTSIDE the UK and plan on using Amazon FBA in the UK, need to register for VAT from day one.

Hi Andrew, I am applying for a trade mark and to avoid additional costs later I have chosen 3 classes.
Each class has a number of categories, some of which are quite long, would you remove those that you think are
not relevant, or is it ok to just apply for the class and not worry about the actual categories?

You don’t really have to worry about categories.
When you register a trademark, you select CLASSES you want to register in and then supply goods list you want to cover.
A good tip is to find a well known company/trademark that work in same niche and simply copy goods list from them! 🙂 If needed, add more!
Remember that you won’t be able to add products to list after trademark is registered.

Yes, it will work in the US too.
While I will create it based around Amazon UK, all regional Amazon platforms basically work in same way, with minor differences.

I’m a little stuck at the moment. I have been researching products for weeks now, regularly staying up until the early hours of the morning researching and speaking to suppliers in China.
I use Junglescout or Amazeowl, I find a product on Amazon and think great! This may have potential and fits the criteria outlined in videos I’ve watched and I get quoted a fair price from China so I get all excited. THEN I check out the price on eBay and there’s UK sellers selling the exact product I found for the same or similar price that the Chinese supplier quoted me. So then I think I’ve got to find a new product or a cheaper supplier to compete and this makes it very difficult or impossible to do.
I understand Amazon buyers are different to eBay buyers and I may be looking at the wrong type of products but it still makes me nervous.
I don’t have a lot of money or means to save or borrow so I need to make my first product count! I have a horrible job that’s very depressing and it’s been a lifelong dream of mine to have a successful business so I can not stress how hungry and determined I am to make this work!

Why do you look for prices on eBay? You should look on Amazon instead, completely ignore eBay!
On eBay almost everything can be bought at cost price and in general, it does not mean anything when we do Amazon research. very often same items are sold on eBay for £4 when on Amazon they sell for £8. So don’t even look at eBay when you’re doing Amazon research – look for prices on Amazon.

I notice on Facebook there seems to be a number of comments left from people who are looking to do the same, and one comment caught my attention and it concerned a Chinese supplier pinching a trade mark from one of his new customers and registering it themselves before his customer could trade mark it.
In your experience is this a likely on going problem, and if so, would you recommend trade marking before ordering products?

In my 10+ years of being online, helping others, I have never witnessed such a scenario…
It does not mean it can’t happen, as it can – but I think chances of it happening are very low.
Still, I always recommend to register trademark as soon as you can really, as it is important to have that protection, at least in the UK.

As I explain in the video, I think that Amazon is the way to go right now BUT of course you have to do product research based on Amazon, not eBay. If you want to sell on eBay, you would do product research based on eBay, using Terapeak tool.
As for how many products to start with – I would recommend you start with just one, keep the extra money in reserver, as a back-up. Get that one perfect product on Amazon, start selling it, learn everything, make your listing perfect, run ads etc. etc. – START making profit! And then you can work on 2nd, 3rd etc. products.

I’ve recently downloaded and set up the Crome tool on my computer. When it presents itself to me there is no ‘Opportunity Score & Demand’ box at the top right hand side, nor anywhere to be seen. Also, the last two right hand side columns, ‘Fees’ and ‘LQS’ don’t appear either. I’ve tried dragging the whole Chrome tool wider and enlarging it but it doesn’t move at all. (I note also that on their tutorials these boxes aren’t shown either).
Is this because these facilities have now been removed from the tool, or is it just me?
It’s because those tools are available only in Professional version and you probably have Lite version.

It depends on how you’ll ship the goods – will it be courier? (like DHL, EMS, UPS, TNT etc.)
If so – you don’t really have to worry about customs clearance procedure as couriers will do it for you and simply invoice you for the service + actual VAT and import duty charges.

Want to import from China and only place I can get info was on Alibaba website. Is this only route to safely import products from China? or do you recommend a visit to verify the product quality in person because If I don’t do that then the product will be shipped directly to Amazon warehouse and the quality will only be through customer reviews. is there any alternate to overcome that?

Alibaba.com is by far the largest platform to look for suppliers in China, yes. There’s also GlobalSources.com and Made-In-China.com – they’re also popular but Alibaba is biggest of all and unless you are looking for a very specific/unique product, you should be able to find suppliers there.
As for product quality – you can always do pre-shippment inspection and check product quality this way OR simply ship goods to your address – check them on your own – and only then send to Amazon FBA. You don’t have to send goods directly from China to Amazon FBA if you don’t want to (you actually can’t do that as Amazon can’t act as an importer for you – you will anyways have to find a company that can clear Customs for you and only then deliver goods to Amazon).
Lastly – Amazon Sharks – it depends really on how strong you feel about your knowledge etc. – if you already know how it all works, have a clear plan in place, there’s no need to wait for anything. But if you feel that you’re overwhelmed with everything and would benefit from a step by step guidance, then wait for the Amazon Sharks to come out in January!

hi Andrew, can you clarify whether I need to register my brand on Amazon, what are the benefits of Brand Registry, as it is going to cost me money to apply for the trademark first, and I believe it will take time also? Will I be able to start selling just as easily using FBA without applying for Brand regsitry. Also, have you written any posts yet on how to promote your listings to start with on Amazon, I have added quite a few of the products that I currently sell on ebay, but none of them have started selling yet, do you recommend paying to promote them to begin with?

No, you don’t have to have a trademark to start sell on Amazon! Brand Registry is optional and something you can do over time as you see that products are selling well etc.
I haven’t done any posts on this yet but will do in future and of course cover it all in detail in Amazon Sharks program.
As for launching new products on Amazon – yes, you absolutely MUST drive traffic to them to get sales going and the easiest/fastest way to do this is via Amazon’s Promoted Products paid advertising program.

Yes, those features along with FBA fees and some others are only for PRO version.

I currently sell on eBay and i too want a way out and i really hope that this is it. I know it wont be easy and probably a series of failures and losses through trail and error before i start to get it right, but i am willing to put in the work and face failure in order to eventually get to the end goal. If you do any sort of 1 on 1 mentoring for Amazon FBA i would like to know about it – my goal is to make 50,000 GBP in profit per year – hands off, i know that seems like outside the realm of possibility at the moment but i know with help i can do it. I don’t want to make money to buy things, i can already afford most things i want – But i have my main dream of making my own charity before im 40 to save lives by building schools and hospitals – i really want to make a positive impact on the world before i leave here, and a normal 9 to 5 job wont be sufficient as i wont have enough time or energy to do it.

Going offline is actually something I will also concentrate on for this new brand – as there are just products that are actually much more suitable for selling in B&M stores, products that maybe people are not actively searching for on Amazon but WILL buy if they see it in a store. This is especially true for impulse purchase type of products.

I had a pro merchant account but sold branded goods so life was hard, especially as Amazon high-jacked my listing which was for a new EAN.. live and learn.
You mention that Amazon collect 15% of the full product price but in my case they also added VAT making this 18% and as I am VAT registered I couldn’t claim the difference.
Is this still the case?

Yes, that is the case.
If you’re not VAT registered, you’ll get charged VAT on fees. In the example I used 15% as I will be VAT registered very soon plus I did reduce the net profit rounding it up to £5 (down). So that 3% basically is there.
As for your story/case – selling branded products on Amazon in my opinion is no go… Maybe it can work in the US where you can get real bargains in B&M stores, do retail arbitrage etc. but in the UK we don’t have that massive deals/discounts.
Private label is the way to go! 🙂
