From an Auction to Buy It Now – with ONE Click!

One of the easiest ways to drive traffic to your eBay Shop and Buy It Now listings is by using auctions. This is possible mainly because of the increased search positions given to auction style listings.

For example, if you list two identical items, one in an auction style and the other one as a BIN listing, both listings for 7 days, chances are that the auction will get more views than the (otherwise identical) BIN listing. This is because during the last few hours / minutes before it ends, eBay boosts auction listings much higher in search results (and this makes sense as people who like to bid would rather see auctions ending soon when they search for items).

And by knowing this little eBay ‘secret’ you can boost traffic to your shop and BIN listings, here’s how:

1) Have all your BIN listings in place for the items you sell (with your target prices set as the BIN prices).

2) Run auction style listings for the same items &

3) Include a Buy It Now button in these listings that links to your corresponding BIN listings.

Here’s how a real life example looks:

By doing this, you generate extra traffic (and therefore sales!) to your BIN listings as there are many people out there (I’m one of them) who don’t like to bid on items and instead always go with a Buy It Now option.

Going by the current eBay rules we can have 1 Buy It Now listing and up to 14 Auctions for each product we sell. So if you have plenty of products in stock, you can run an auction listing once a day, so that every day you have one auction listing ending soon (so it’s search results ranking is boosted) sending in more traffic and sales to your BIN listings!

As for the auction starting price – this will depend on the item you sell, how popular it is and what the competition looks like. Obviously, you wouldn’t want to list a 500 quid item with a starting price of just £0.99, as that would be too risky. But for cheap items OR items in high demand (such as popular DVDs, Blu-Rays, and video games) it’s actually ok to use £0.99 as a starting price as the demand is there and an auction should reach the market’s average selling price when it ends anyway.

But there are no strict rules or formulas to calculate this, you’ll just have to test it and see how it works in your market.

I have even added 10 Buy It Now banners / buttons that you can download and use straight away in your own listings.

Click HERE to Download All 10 buttons!

All you need to do is upload the file to your hosting account and add the links to your auction listings. I recommend adding them quite high in the template, in a highly viewable area – probably somewhere just below the first product picture – that way people instantly see a Buy It Now option available for this item.

You can also use Photoshop to add a price to your BIN banners. That’s why I have attached some banners with a special place for the price. You can also add your Logo, next day delivery message or any other additional information that will help drive your sale.

If you’re happy to invest some money in your eBay business, this strategy is perfect to build up a sales history for your Good Til Cancelled (GTC) listings. For example, you’re selling a Samsung S4 wooden phone cover & your target price is £9.95.

Here’s what you do:

1) Create a GTC listing for your item and set price to £4.95 (break-even).

2) Each day run a £0.99 auction for the same item with a BIN banner included in the listing.

3) For every 3-5 sales achieved on the GTC listing, increase the price by £1 until you reach your target price of £9.95.

After just 5-10 days you’ll have a GTC listing with 15-25 sales and a decent position in the best match search results. Then you can stop doing the daily auctions OR if they’re bringing in tonnes of traffic, continue with them as you’re now making a healthy profit on your GTC listing.

Lastly, just to clarify – this is not a black hat method and is completely in line with eBay rules so don’t worry about that..

Thanks,
Andrew

  1. Is this article about including a BIN button on Auction postings still a possibility on eBay? https://andrewminalto.com/from-an-auction-to-buy-it-now-with-one-click/

I’ve tried updating on eBay but the listing keeps getting the URL removed.

Any help you can provide is appreciated.

    Thanks!

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Eve,

You should still be able to do it, yes, as links within eBay are allowed.

Make sure that you host the button file on a secure https server.

      Andrew

  2. are the buy it now banners available as a TXT file ? its the only way it will work for me at the moment thanks

    1. Andrew Minalto

      No, they’re images.

And you insert them just like you insert a product image and then link it to the GTC listing.

      Andrew

  3. Hi Andrew!

I just found you! You are one terrific guy helping us confused eBayers out here. You have a beautiful family who needs you. Your time is valuable . Thanks so much for doing this.

I am hoping you may have some suggestions for an eBay ‘old timer’, like me. I’ll give you some thoughts and background, below.

I am disabled right now & mostly chair bedridden now but can still use my hands and keyboard. to earn income, thank God. I work on eBay, most days, 12-18 hours a day. If I do not succeed, I go to nursing home. way too young for that! So, it’s imperative I succeed. I barely ‘squeak by’, these days.

I have sell expensive jewelry items . I have been a Seller on eBay for 16 years . I am a low level Top Seller. I have a 100% feedback. I now carry over 1,000 items (over 3,000 variations total). All BIN, but can go 1-2 weeks without a sale, way too often. I offer free expedited shipping to US Customers.

I was a Top Selling Realtor for years before doing this. For me, eBay, is a much bigger challenge than selling Real Estate! I am still determined to succeed, though. I know high search standing is the most important thing. I am not technically savvy which makes this difficult for me to comprehend. It is so confusing when I try to read about it on eBay. Seems like there must be some deep, dark secret about this!

After the Google/eBay fiasco, incident a few year ago, my business changed drastically. Last few years have been hanging on by a thread-1 step from closing down…but I fight on!

Tried many things, to improve business. Last year. I did mostly all GTC listings to try that. It has created more business for a handful of certain lower priced items as well, tried promotions, mark-downs, etc. My annual average sale price over the past 2 years has decreased by half, so I have been listing less expensive items.

I have not done well with auctions, have preferred BIN as they are easier manage, especially selling higher priced items. Not financially stable enough to withstand losses, now.

I know this hurts me regarding sales, but I have never offered returns unless item found to be significantly different than described. Hopefully, I will get more financially stable, so I can offer that to better compete. Returns offered for just any reason, at this point in time with my immobility, would be seriously problematic. Also people who buy luxury items are more prone to “Buyers Remorse”.

I rarely have a complaint or asked for refund, am meticulous about giving accurate, full specifications on items. The rare complaint seems to be because customers do not read the description and know the size of the item, before purchasing even though I encourage them to and give mm’s & inches size. In Real Estate, I had that old saying ” if you have it in writing you have a prayer , if not, you have nothing but air” drummed in to my head!

I have had a few cases filed against me over the years, but I have always won the case with eBay. I do not hesitate to call eBay if a question or problem and need guidance, as I have in the past. My calls are now going to the great Representatives in the Philippines, who I can understand, are caring and professional.

I have had my son set up a google search account for me directing to my eBay store, but unsure how much this is contributing.

My prices are competitive, even though I have found many sellers, price even lower than me. Retailers mark up jewelry 3-6% I do 1.5% mostly and not much profit after all fees.

I use drop shipping. My vendor even ships worldwide for me. I could not do this business ,with my health as it is without their help with this. Yes, sometimes they mess up and I have to fix with customers but probably 98% of the time everything gets smoothly. I am grateful for them.

My big concern is that eBay is advertising other sellers items on my pages (sometimes same exact item) and to my watchers. (They want to be like Amazon). I feel this encourages sellers to click on them and leave my page and store. The big thing to me is, I pay for this space and am angry they are doing this. I believe it is hurting and driving out smaller sellers.

In my category of fine jewelry, I have found a big problem is the thousands of sellers who are cheating and manipulating the search results to list CZ’s,Lab created gems, plated gold, etc., in the field of fine jewelry. They over-crowd search results. In the past this was not allowed, at all. I have reported this to eBay & sent examples. This is forbidden by eBay do not so do not know why they are allowing this to go on.

I am now doing GTC, 30 day & some 10 day listings. I would love to do 7 day or less, listings on everything, but cost is a factor. Use to. Wondering if I should list the more expensive items in 30 day listings? Less expensive in 7-10? I use to start all ending listings as new listings, not to re-list, but with the new Garage sale beta program, that is not offered, that I can find. Do you consider this important?

I feel I need to list thousands more items to compete now. I hate the thought of that, but notice most sellers in my field, have so many more items listed the me. Is quantity of listings important now? Sometimes, I go to a site and a seller has so much & so many mediocre items, it just overwhelms me and I leave. I select my jewelry pieces so carefully, that I add. Still, most items don’t sell at all in a year or only once…except for some ‘regulars’ and trending items. The thing is, you never know what someone is looking for, in the jewelry realm there are so many options. What is your thought – is more, better?

Another thing I have struggled with is variation listings. I have many of those; ring sizes, metal selection, gold colors, sizes, etc. Do you think it is better to do separate listings with some? Example; rose yellow or white gold. There is only one gallery photo, so would it be better to list them individually to better appeal to customers looking for a certain color of gold?

Also, say a cross is listed in 4 sizes. Ones inexpensive the largest expensive. Is it better to list them by size individually? Wondering your auction listing program would work for these? I will ask my son to buy your program for me, so I can better understand this.

Again, thanks so much for your time. This is way too long and I apologize for that. Please feel free to edit, if you wish. If you have any suggestions or criticisms for me, Andrew, I would be so thankful.

God bless you and your family!

    Kathi

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Kathi,

Thanks for your comment and your kind words, it really means a lot to me! So thank you for that 🙂

Jewellery is definitely one of the most competitive markets on eBay so I can understand your struggle with it. But if this is what you know best and have been doing for years, you probably should stick with it and try to improve.

Yes, you want to list expensive items for 30 days. There’s no point in listing them for 7 or 10 days and pay multiple insertion fees each month. With BIN listings, the duration of listing DOES NOT affect your listing search positions.

Number of listings – yes, you probably want to list more. If you’re using a dropshipper, then this is really not a problem, to expand your inventory (apart from time it takes to create listings of course).

Variations – sizes should definitely be listed as variations but I agree that say colour, especially for expensive items, should be listed as seperate listings as many customers will probably search for specific colour.

      Hope this helps Kathi!

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  4. I have a confusion. Are you talking about adding the BIN listing link in description of auction style listing? or to list BIN and auction while creating one listing?

    1. Andrew Minalto

Yes, to include a link to BIN listing in Auction listing.

  5. Hi Andrew, Yout tips are very nice. how are some listing getting around 400-500 view/per hr…are they using social media or other technique….any tips will be help full.

    Thanks
    Silas

    1. Andrew Minalto

They simply have achieved very high, top positions in search results, for highly demanded products.

It’s usually not social media as it’s not very smart so much traffic to eBay when you could drive it to your own online shop.

      Andrew

  6. Hi Andrew,

Just stumbled onto your blog via Google search.
I haven’t tried this idea yet so I can’t wait!

Sorry if I seem like an idiot but this is the idea right:
Create an auction listing and add the buy it now button, linking to the BIN, in the item description.

    Thanks a lot!

    1. Andrew Minalto

Yes, that’s exactly what you want to do!

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  7. Hi Andrew,
Great article – can you advise me how I physically link the button templates a) into my ‘satellite’ auction listings and b) in turn into my BIN ‘hub’ listing please? I have downloaded all of the files but am unsure as to what to do next!
    Thanks in advance
    Dan

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Dan,

You simply insert banner as an image, just like you would do with any product image.

Then select it (by clicking on it) and click on INSERT LINK. There you need to add/paste link to your actual BIN listing.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  8. Hi Andrew, your tips are nice. If i am creating a 1 day auction listing for low price product woun’t ,that listing cost me more , if i don;t get high bidder ? do you need to include reserve price ? to drive traffic to your BIN listing ?

    Silas

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Silas,

You don’t have to use 1 day auctions – you can use 5, 7 days – whatever you want.

These auctions will be loss leaders obviously so in most cases you won’t get same price as with your BIN listings.

This is an investment to get those sales for your BIN listings and grow your sales history.

I wouldn’t recommend using a reserve price, no, that usually puts off lots of bidders. But if it’s a valuable item, you can simply START the auction at higher price – so that first bid gets you decent selling price.

      Andrew

      1. HI Andrew, just tested your Auction- 2- BIN listing stratgey…have 10 auction listing for 5 days point it.and 1 buy now listing…so far not able to get much views on each listing..hardly…1-2 view per listing only ? while before that it has around 50-60 views (before the other same listing type) the auction listing states “This listing is a duplicate and is not shown to buyers. Buyers will see this listing when the identical listing receives a bid”

        any tips…?

        Thanks

      2. Andrew Minalto

        Hi Silas,

Yes, there are new rules in place now – you need o wait first auction to get first bid, only then list another.

Check out this post with info on duplicate listing policy:

        http://andrewminalto.com/duplicate-listings-on-ebay/

        Thanks,
        Andrew

      3. Hi, thanks for your reply. stop that auction 2 BIN for time being… my normal listing buy it now is getting sale for 8 days, 4612 imp, views 45, CT – 0.98%, sales conversion – 4.44% some sales….

looking for more more sales…what could work best …?

        Thanks,
        Silas

  9. Hello Andrew and thanks for the huge help you give all of us.

What if customers go for the action ?that way i will loose the BIN sale right? So souldn’t my BIN price be lower than my action price to attract them to my BIN list?is that possible with 99c auction ?
    regards Panos

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Panos,

Well, some people will stick with the auction, yes, but that’s not a problem in your major plan. The more bidders you get on your auctions, the higher end price you’ll get. And plus all sales from BIN listing these auctions generate.

      Andrew

  10. Hi Andrew,

And what if I take pictures of item and customer on arrival, obviously if he agrees on that. Is that any proof for ebay and paypal?

    Thx

    Andy

    1. Andrew Minalto

      No, I don’t think so.

eBay only allows courier tracking numbers to be as proof of delivery.

      Andrew

  11. Hi Andrew,
Just setting up ebay business and its going to be bulky items. Do you know if I can deliver the item to a buyer my self in a rented van or this is not allowed by ebay. Transport is really pricy and I thought I’d do it myself

    Thanks,
    Andy

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Andy,

You could do that, yes BUT you won’t have any proof of buyer receiving the item – no tracking information to confirm this.

So it can be very risky if buyer claims they did not receive the item.

      Andrew

  12. Hi Andrew.

Just a quick question, is this strategy still works, and is legal?
    Thanks.

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Andy,

It works and is legal BUT with some changes of number of auction listings you can run.

Please check this recent post for more info:

      http://andrewminalto.com/duplicate-listings-on-ebay/

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      1. Hi,

        Very helpful!

        Thanks.

      2. Andrew Minalto

        You’re welcome Andy!

  13. Hi Andrew,
Are we not Violating the ebay policies by placing auction and BIN listing at the same time for the same product ?

    1. What i meant is Auction with BIN and Fixed Price Listing , at the same time ….

      1. Andrew Minalto

IF you do Auction with BIN option, then yes.

I’m referring to normal Auction type listing, with no BIN option.

We don’t want to use BIN option for this strategy.

        Thanks,
        Andrew

  14. If someone uses the auction listing’s Buy it Now button instead of the button you created that links to your BIN listing, will your GTC listing get credit for the sale or not?

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Sorry, what you mean Jerry?

Can you explain in more detail?

      1. I figured out the problem. I deleted the Buy it now option in the auction listing, which forces buyers to use your buttons to take them to the GTC buy now link.

I also ran into some issues where eBay was saying that I am using duplicate listings when I tried multiple auctions at different duration. I am testing a few auction listings at 1 day, then 3 day then 5 day. What would you say is the best duration auction to make to help drive traffic to the GTC listing?

      2. Andrew Minalto

Yes, you can only have ONE auction per item with no bids at same time. Once it gets first bid, you can list second auction listing and so on.

I personally use 7 day auctions most of the time BUT if the item is very popular/hot, then even 3 days can be good enough!

      3. Thanks, so list as many 5-day and 3-day auction as you can when the 1st bid happens seems to be a good practice?

      4. Andrew Minalto

        Yep, exactly!

  15. Thank you Andrew 🙂

  16. Hi guys i dont know if somebody can help me before i become crazy , i was on best match page 1-5 on ebay.com and after revise my listing its all dissapear from best match. So i think i will not do nothing for couple of days because since then i almost sell nothing. I try to put a new listing auction at 0.01 with no luck.

    🙁

    thanks for feedback!

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Patrick,

What did you change/revise in your listing?

  17. Thanks Andrew for your help

    Regards,
    Ricky

    1. Andrew Minalto

      You’re welcome Ricky! 🙂

  18. Hi Andrew,

Thanks for your answer & valuable time.

I am assuming that if I set the reserve price in Auction with BIN listing, the BIN option stays until reserve price is met But,

Does this reserved price Auction with BIN Listing, gets featured higher in search results same as running auction only listing with BIN in details page & separate BIN listing as you recommended ?

    Thanks & Regards,
    Ricky

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Ricky,

Not sure as I don’t use much auctions + BIN listings. But it should be close to auctions yes, and better that standard BIN listings.

      Andrew

  19. Hi Andrew,

Learned a lot from your blogs, thanks for sharing your expertise.

I was curious that does creating two listing one in auction & other in buy it now and the providing link for buy it now in auction listing would be better ?

or Making an auction listing and put a reserve price with Buy it now option provided default by Ebay ?

Your advice on this would be really helpful

    Thanks & Regards,
    Ricky

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Ricky,

You can of course do that but I can’t see rally point in that. We use auctions to drive extra traffic to BIN listings because auctions in general get featured higher in search results, right before they end. But it wouldn’t work other way around.

Auctions with BIN option can also be used, yes, but the problem there is that once that listing receives first bid, BIN option is taken down by eBay. So it continues as normal auction listing with no BIN option.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  20. This is a great article and I’m hoping you might give me a little help with my particular situation. I have a GTC Fixed Price Multi-Variation listing for dog cages where you choose any of 5 sizes and from 2 different bedding options so in other words my GTC Fixed price listing has 15 SKU’s and 15 different price points.

Running auctions with so many variations would be easy because I could potentially run 15 * 14 each day = 210, even if only one of each SKU had a bid I would have 15 auctions ending each day.

My question is can a particular SKU running by auction be linked back to that item in the GTC Fixed Price listing?
I’m worried that the GTC Fixed price Multi-Variation listing may have too many options to run this system.

    What are your thoughts?

    Colin

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Colin,

No, you can’t do that. At least I don’t know how to get it done as choosing from variations in listing doesn’t change it’s URL, so URL is same for all options.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      1. Thank you Andrew but clearly I can link the Auction back to the GTC listing and just leave the buyer to choose the option themselves?

I can’t work out how to link the Buy It Now button back to the GTC listing, I created an HTML listing with Listing Factory Software and placed the Buy It Now button right in the middle of the listing but if I right click on it I just don’t get a ‘Link To’ option anywhere.

Is there any other way to do the link or am I just doing something wrong, (I’m an expert with PS CS6 but a beginner with HTML)

Also what is the best HTML software package for EBay without going the whole hog and going to Dream Weaver?

        Kind regards,

        Colin

      2. Andrew Minalto

Yes, of course you can do that.

I’m not sure how Listing factory software works as I haven’t used it but can you select the image and then click on link/insert link icon somewhere in the menu?

I personally use Turbo Lister for listing creation, which has a built in WYSIWYG editor. You can see in action how it works in this video:

        http://andrewminalto.com/create-listings-with-turbo-lister/

        Hope this helps!

        Thanks,
        Andrew

  21. Thanks for your reply. One more thing, how do I make the Buy It Now buttons clickable. I’ve been searching Google and its driving me nuts. I have one inserted in a template but its there as a picture. I just can’t fathom out how to make it clickable.

    1. Andrew Minalto

In Turbo Lister, you just click on the Buy It Now button (image), and then on – Insert link, and add URL there.

On eBay, you have to edit listing manually, in HTML mode and add URL there. Search on Google for: HTML code for image and you should easily find that simple line of code you need to use. (I can’t post it here as WordPress hides code).

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  22. Anthony micallef

Does this still apply as eBay now says that a listng will be considered a duplicate if its an auction style listing with a BIN option. Its all rather confusing.

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Anthony,

It still works, only now you can’t have 14 auctions with no bids at same time, you can have just one. Once an auction gets a bid, next one goes live.

14 auction limit has been lifted so now you can have un-limited auctions, as long as there’s at least one bid on each.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  23. Another incredible post that I can use with your other methods. In my niche I could not figure out for the longest time why the top sellers had these random Auctions showing up for the same products but it makes total sense now. Thanks for the buttons as well! I wish I could give back some how. I’ll be sure to stop in and let you know how things are going in about a month. Thank you!!!!!

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Good stuff! 🙂

  24. Hi Andrew,

just discovered your blog yesterday and it’s really great, so much usefull information. Thanks for that.

I had a question about the 14 listings per product.

Couldn’t we boost the whole thing even more by posting more than just one auction lisitng per product? If they just run 1 day we could theoretically post 14 auctions per day. Wouldn’t that be possible?

    Best regards

    Jophan

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Jophan,

Yes, that is possible and I actually recommend doing so.

Only thing – by new eBay rules – you can list AS MANY auctions per each item you want BUT only one will be shown in search results UNTIL it gets first bid. Once that happens, next one will be shown. More on that here:

      http://sellerupdate.ebay.co.uk/spring2014/duplicates

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      1. I havent really understood this as imo there is contradicting info.

“You can list as many duplicate auction-style listings as you like, but until you receive a bid on one of your duplicate listings, only one will show on eBay at any time. ”

This means only one of the 14 will be seen when that one received a bid, right?

        Then it says:

“As soon as this listing receives its first bid or ends it is no longer considered a duplicate and your next auction-style listing for the same item will automatically appear on the site. ”

Now it tells me that whenever one listing gets this one bid, it is no longer a duplicate and the other listings will also appear…. 😐

        Isn’t that contradicting information???

      2. Andrew Minalto

        no, both say same thing…

Basically, until a listing gets a bid on it, your other auctions for same item won’t be shown.

      3. Hi Andrew, is it possible to change the item title slightly or something along them lines, such that eBay doesn’t see it as a duplicate auction listing?

      4. Andrew Minalto

I haven’t done it but most likely it is possible, yes.

Just be aware that potentially you can get a duplicate listing policy breach/warning which can negatively affect your account status.

  25. Thank you for sharing this Andy. Great idea.

I was curious as to whether you think this could be applied, or how it would work for clothing with colour and size variations.

I was considering creating an auction listing for the best selling colour and perhaps not specifying a size ( if the auction did sell of course I could request the customers size via message ). This way they would be more inclined to click on the buy it now banner with added reference to “all sizes and colours” available.

    Any thoughts, Cheers
    Danny.

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Danny,

      Thanks for your comment.

That’s an excellent idea, I would do just that! Have auctions for most popular size and colour and have promo banner/graphic right below main headline that says – Click Here for ALL sizes & Colours!

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  26. Hi Andrew. i have just come across this on the wholesale forums. Seems like a good strategie.

I just wondered once you have created a gtc(does this work for a 30 day BIN auction also?) listing you mention add a .99p auction each day and add a buy it now button in the description.

Does it matter how long each .99p auction lasts for? I gather a 3,5 or 7day auction?Which would you advise?

Thanks in advance. Very much appreciated and so helpful.

    Thanks Anthony.

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Anthony,

      Thanks for your comment.

Yes, this can also work for normal 30 day BIN listings (any BIN listing will work it’s just you’ll have to change the links more often than with GTC listings).

As for the length of 99p auctions – depends how competitive the item is. In competitive markets (dozens of pages in search results), go for short 3-7 day auctions. No point in doing longer ones as eBay only boosts auctions on last day/hours/minutes before they end.

On the other hand, if it’s a relatively easy item to rank with just few pages of search results, you can aim for longer auctions. But then again in such easy niches you would list BIN straight away.

So yes, to answer your question – go for short auction duration, 7 days being max but most likely 3-5 day being optimal in most cases.

      Hope this helps Anthony!

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  27. Hello Andrew

This is a great post and I often use this method. The only thing I can’t get my head round is the fact that i would usually link my auction listing to the BIN listing located on ebay.co.uk but this is irrelevant for an American customer who is using ebay.com for example as they wouldn’t be signed into ebay.co.uk and so couldn’t complete the sale in two clicks. They would go from the auction on ebay.com to the BIN listing on ebay.co.uk and wouldn’t be able to click on BIN. They would have to search for the item manually on ebay.com and it’s more likely they won’t bother doing that unless they are very keen.

This would in fact happen to anyone not logged into ebay.co.uk. So the link is only relevant to UK customers. If anything I worry that it actually drives people away from my auction listing so I don’t bother with this link anymore these days.

Do you know if there a “universal” link which would make ebay check what regional ebay site the customer is logged in and bring him/her to the correct BIN listing of their regional site? Hope it makes sense. This has been an issue for me for a while and I have never found an answer. Note i don’t use turbolister as I have a mac so would need to generate the link manually.

    cheers

    Mr A

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Mr. A,

Thanks for your comment & observation.

I can’t see any big problems with this though – why do you think people will have to search for item again when they switch sites?

All it asks is a new login session but item you landed on still is shown… no need to search for an item!

      Andrew

      1. thanks for your reply. The less clicks, the more likely is a customer to actually purchase the item. There’s a good reason why amazon have a 1-click buy button. I think the customer is unlikely to complete the transaction if he/she has to log in again into a foreign ebay site.

I am not sure but if you are originally logged in onto ebay.com then you log in into ebay.co.uk as you suggest, the prices are suddenly in pounds not dollars and the postage fee is the UK one too. I think it makes the whole thing too complicated and the customer will not complete the sale.

      2. Andrew Minalto

        well, yes and no.

I mean – this link/banner is just a way to NOT lose a customer who’s not interested in auction at all. If you’re not doing this, they will leave anyway, so why not do at least something to get some sort of return from those leaving visitors?

I don’t agree that customer is unlikely to complete the transaction if they have to login into their account again. In fact, I have to login on eBay UK site too as usually I just search for products and login ONLY when I want to purchase something. And this doesn’t bother me at all…

        Thanks,
        Andrew

  28. Thanks Andrew,You are a Star !!!

      You’re welcome Sandis!

    Hi Andrew

This is a great post & I will look forward to using this method on my listings. Just a question though, how do you make alterations to the picture? I have adobe photoshop CS6 but not really used it, can I adjust it in their? Also do you provide other useful icons that can be used in ebay?

I carry out all my listings using a template created with adobe dreamweaver CS6 which I find great to use so I will place the link into their & adjust.

    Thanks

    Luke

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Luke,

Yes, if you have Adobe CS6 you can easily change elements/text in these graphics.

If you haven’t used the software at all, watch some basic YouTube tutorials. But essentially all you have to do is open the provided PSD file in CS6 and double click on element/text you want to change.

I have some plans to share some other useful graphics for eBay sellers, yes, so stay tuned! 🙂

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      1. Luke Martin

        Hi Andrew

Thanks for the reply. Yes I plan to search & watch some youtube tutorials & learn the basics as I did with dreamweaver. I’ll give it a try once I’ve done this.

I shall look forward to seeing the other graphics in the near future for us ebay sellers.

Thanks again for the great info & time.

        Regards

        Luke

  30. Hi Andrew.

I like this idea but for someone just starting out and not understanding certain terms or are used to using the listing procedure could you explain the meaning of GTC and how do you create the link in your listing in the first place..

This may seem that I am being tedious but we are not all experts.

BTW I have just finished listening to your videos and there is an awful lot to take in but full of fantastic information.

    Thanks

    Garry

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Gary,

      Thanks for your questions.

      1) GTC stands for Good Till Cancel listing type (available only to eBay Shop owners). These listings never end as long as you keep stock levels positive. Fees are charged every 30 days, just like with 30 day Buy It Now listings.

      2) The link – you insert the banner in same way you would insert a product image, anywhere in the listing. Then, click on the banner and from menu tools select Link To – and add link to your BIN/GTC listing.

      Hope this helps!

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      1. Hi Andrew.

Sorry to be a pain but the “Link To” option, is this only available to shop owners because it doesn’t appear in my inserts menu.

        Thanks for your help.

        Garry

      2. Andrew Minalto

        Hi Garry,

If you use Turbo Lister, that insert link feature is available to everyone.

Alternatively, you can use this HTML code manually to insert a link in your listing:

Where LINK part should be replaced to link you want picture to go and IMAGE – with banner location.

        Thanks,
        Andrew

      3. Hello

Can you repost the HTML link?

        Thank you

      4. Andrew Minalto

        Hi Moshe,

        Sorry, what HTML link?

      5. Hi Andrew

The HTML code referred to above is not visible and when I click the link it appears broken. Any chance you could re-post the link? I do plan to use Turbo Lister but for some reason it won’t download to my machine properly and still trying to figure out why!

        Thanks

        Emma

      6. That’s quite clear. Thank you Andrew I will give it a go.

        Regards

        Garry

Like your post Andrew. Will do that ASAP. Thanks.

      Cheers Justinas!

      1. Joe Mustapha

        Hey Andrew
Great strategy there mate.. Does it affect search listing after the product price is revised? I noticed that everytime i’ve increased the price after few sold, the search listing for the item has been very low.

        Take care

      2. Andrew Minalto

        Hi Joe,

        Thanks for your question.

Yes and no. It depends on competition, by how much you increase the price, how many you have sold etc. etc. It’s a complex algorithm that use dozens of variables price being one of them.

        Thanks,
        Andrew
