Can you Have Multiple eBay & PayPal Accounts?

Hi Andrew,

I have a dilemma about multiple eBay and PayPal accounts. Wherever I go (forums/blogs) I get mixed responses and it’s still not clear to me what I can or can’t do.

Ideally I would love to work in 3 separate niches on eBay and use separate accounts for each – so that I can have a dedicated shop and template for each niche. Can this be done? Or do I risk losing my accounts if eBay finds out?

Your advice would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,
Nicola

Hi Nicola,

This question frequently comes up and for some reason, people are still confused. It’s probably because for years eBay and PayPal were very unclear about the exact rules governing multiple accounts. But nowadays, in 2013, it’s actually all very simple and straightforward.

Multiple eBay Accounts

On eBay you can have as many accounts as you want. eBay itself confirms this on the Help Page here. All you need to open a new eBay account is a separate email address. You can safely use the same name, address and contact information. All you need is a separate e-mail account.

Why would you need 2 or more eBay accounts? There are several possible reasons:

1) To sell in multiple niches.

2) To keep private sales and purchases separate from business transactions.

3) To use one account for buying and another one for selling when working with a used goods concept.

These are the most typical situations where you would need to have multiple eBay accounts and eBay is totally cool with that.

What you should be aware of though, is that all these accounts will be interlinked by eBay and that’s bad news. In practice this means that if one of your accounts get suspended/banned, the others will be closed shortly afterwards because from eBay’s point of view you will have become too much of a risk as a seller.

But these “hard bans” usually only happen when you breach eBay’s selling policies – like selling counterfeit or prohibited items. Another highly risky situation is if you use a dropshipper who lets you down, forcing you to refund dozens of sales which leads to loads of negative feedback (just another reason why I’m not a huge fan of dropshipping).

Can you use the same PayPal account for all these multiple eBay accounts? Yes, you can! You don’t have to even create new emails for each; you can use the same PayPal payment email for all your eBay accounts.

Multiple PayPal Accounts

What if you need multiple PayPal accounts too? Is it allowed? Yes, it is!

Under PayPal’s general Terms & Conditions you can have 2 accounts:

1 personal account
1 business account

But this comes with a note that you can have multiple business accounts upon approval/manual request. Now, don’t waste your time trying to find a special form or button on the PayPal website to request permission to open multiple PayPal accounts. There’s no such thing.

What you do is simply contact PayPal (from your existing account) when you plan to open a new PayPal business account and ask them if it’s ok to do so. I have done this many times and the answer always comes back POSITIVE in less than 24 hours.

You can of course open a new account without asking PayPal but that would be a breach of their T&Cs. It’s better just to contact them and get their approval to open another business account to avoid any nasty surprises later on (this hasn’t happened to me, but they may not let you open another account if your current account is in bad standing).

But remember, opening a new business account means that you’re opening it for a completely new business, not just an eBay account. For this, you’ll need company registration documents, a company bank account and ideally a credit card, too. You won’t be able to have your PayPal account verified and the account limits lifted without these documents.

Lastly, with multiple PayPal accounts the situation is exactly same as with multiple eBay accounts – if you mess up one account, chances are that you’ll lose all the other accounts, too.

And it can go even further: as you know, PayPal is owned by eBay. What usually happens is that all your eBay and PayPal accounts are interlinked. eBay knows exactly which accounts you own by tracking your IP address, name, address and financial information. If one of your eBay accounts gets suspended, chances are that all the other eBay AND PayPal accounts will be suspended too.

Sounds scary? It is very scary indeed! That’s why you want to do everything in your power to not let this situation happen. Do not sell dodgy items or work with risky suppliers. In most cases, people who lose all their accounts make stupid, costly mistakes. There are rare occasions when totally innocent accounts get banned but they’re very few and far between.

Conclusion

To sum it up:

1) You can have multiple eBay accounts – as many as you want in fact, as long as you use a new email address for each account.

2) You can have ONE personal account with PayPal and multiple business accounts as long as you own multiple businesses. To stay safe and in line with PayPal’s T&Cs, contact PayPal before opening a new/additional business account.

3) Follow the rules – both eBay’s and PayPal’s – to avoid your accounts becoming suspended. If one of your accounts is banned, chances are that you’ll lose them all.

Thanks,
Andrew

  1. I have just received a letter from a debt collection agency regarding unpaid fees on my ebay seller account. I sold an item a few months ago and the buyer requested to return the item because she believed she had paid too much for it. Before I had a chance to respond, ebay refunded my buyer and allowed her to keep the item worth £50. I was not notified of this at any time by ebay. I have checked my emails and spam folder and no email has been received from ebay. This is why I am so shocked. Now, my rights as a seller have been suspended, as has my husband who has a seperate account. Today is the first time I have heard any of this and now I am being threatened with court action and large fines. I do not feel I should have to pay these fines as I was not given the right to respond to my buyer personally. Ebay is quoting their rules at me, but what about mine as a seller? Surely I should have been told of this action before it came to this? Is there anything I can do, or will ebay succeed in stealing money from me? Yes, I do believe this to be theft.

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Harriet,

      Thanks for your comment.

I’m sorry to hear about your situation… Money was probably returned by PayPal when buyer opened a case against you. So eBay will not send you information on that, only PayPal. If you wanted to claim back eBay fees, you had to initiate a case on eBay that sale has been cancelled, then you would get back part of the fees.

I’m afraid there’s nothing you can do about it and it will be better if you just pay the fees. On a £50 sale it should’t be more than £5 or so?

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      1. Harriet

Thanks for your reply. It is appreciated. However, Ebay is asking I pay the £50 plus £5 seller fees. They decided to refund my buyer without telling me. I have checked all my email folders and at no time since the sale in October 2013 has Ebay contacted me. I assumed everything was fine. I did not receive feedback from the buyer, but that happens sometimes. It appears my buyer decided they had paid too much for the item and requested refund which Ebay agreed to without telling me. Now they are demanding I pay them for the refund they issued without my knowledge. The buyer did not return the item, nor did Ebay ask them to. So I do not have the item and a debt collectors bill for £55. Is there anything I can do? Ebay will not listen to be as they do not believe I did not get emails from them.

      2. Andrew Minalto

I’m sorry but you can’t do nothing about it….

You agreed to eBay’s T&Cs when you signed up with them and I’m 100% sure they’re playing by the rules.

        Andrew

  2. Hi Andrew,

I stupidly got my ebay account suspended. I have opened another account but if I link the same paypal account as before will ebay flag it and suspend my new account?

    Thanks
    Luke

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Luke,

      Thanks for your question.

It doesn’t matter whatever you’ll link same PayPal account or not – eBay will ban your new account anyway.

Once you get banned from eBay, it’s for life (in most cases) so any new accounts you’ll open, will also be banned.

That is unless you do it the black-hat way.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  3. dear andrew

    please can you help me

i would like to use one ebay account for selling two lines of products. for example ipods and cameras.
i would like to use two paypal accounts for this as it makes it easier one paypal account for ipods and the second for cameras.
i could edit in the listing where it asks for “email address for recieving paymet” in one listing i could put one paypal email address and in the second i could put the other.

would this be an issue at all.

2 here it gets a bit more complicated. i would like the paypal account for the cameras to be in a different company name which is run by a friend of mine. would that be okay as well.

the reason he would like to use my account is that it has a high feedback score

    please let me know

    thank you for your help

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Alex,

      Thanks for stopping by.

Technically I think this is all possible and will work. BUT it’s probably against eBay’s and PayPal’s T&Cs so if something will go wrong, your set-up will go down the drain….

Usually it’s not a good idea to use other people’s accounts for any kind of business online.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  4. Love you site- I currently have 4 different ebay accounts all generating roughly 10k a month profit- tax time is round corner and would like to know since I’m in canada what’s the best way to claim this since to register a bsuiness in ontario canada you most make more then 30k, can each account be its own business? As I don’t want to link all four accounts with one bsuiness account- currently they are going into different bank accounts different names etc.
    I’d appreciate help:)
    Thanks

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Mike,

      Thanks for stopping by.

I’m not 100% sure how it works in Canada BUT here in UK, we can set-up as many Ltd. (limited Liability Company) as we want and use them for separate eBay businesses.

So if you have 4 different eBay accounts, you should be able to set-up 4 separate companies to keep everything simple and under control.

But as I said, I’m not familiar with how it would work in Canada so you’ll want to check this out at your local company registration house.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  5. Hi. I was wondering if there is a way to send my feedback ratings on one eBay and transfer them to my new account. My old account got restricted from selling video games for reasons which make no sense so I’m just trying to make a completely new account. I really wouldn’t care if my old account got restricted as long as I can carry over my feedback rating to my new account. Thanks

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi There,

      Thanks for stopping by.

No, I’m afraid you can’t transfer feedbacks from one account to another. You have to start with 0 feedbacks when you open new account.

      Hope this helps!

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  6. So I have had my eBay account suspended after having it for about 3 years and selling consistently for a little over a year. I was a power selling made @ $4,000+ dollars a month. My brother also had a eBay account which was suspended a few months ago. They then linked my account with my brother accts and suspended mine indefinitely too. I have already tried to get it back and explain that we are not connected. I’m at stay at home mom and I used my eBay income to help support my family. I am trying to start a new eBay acct but want to make sure I am doing it correctly so that it will not be suspended later.
So my question is how does eBay link you? Is it the actual ip address for your individual computer? If so we have 3 different computer, 2 iPads, and 3 cell phones..,.can I just change devices? Or do they track you some way with the Internet connection or modem. Any help wld be greatly appreciated. Thank you

    1. Hello

I had the same issue but i changed all the details which included internet, email addresses bank account details etc except the name and DOB and opened a business account. Paypal still asked my details as a director for which i was bit worried but luckily nothing bad happened. Running this account form last 2 years now and everything seems fine.BTW i bought that stealth book which helped me a lot.

    2. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Nita,

      Thanks for your question.

eBay links accounts based on IP addresses, home address, credit cards, emails, bank accounts used on accounts. And probably few more things we’re not even aware of.

I would recommend you check out this forum to learn more about how to safely open a new eBay account:

      http://www.aspkin.com/forums/

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  7. Hi Andrew,
I have learned more from the q&a you provided here in an hour than I have learned in months about eBay and paypal. Thanks so much for that !

    And here’s my question:
I have my own 2 eBay accounts, linked to same PayPal , no problem with that personally.
But now I also have 2-3 clients which I start selling for, which I do not want their cash flow to be mixed with my personal selling and buying. So I opened separate accounts for each client, linking them to a new PayPal account on my name, on a debit card.

1). I now understand from all the above that I must change my clients PayPal to business . What I don’t know is whether a business account on pp costs money to handle.
2). And also , what is best to do in my case do when they sell for others in terms of separating the implications and cash flow from my personal account versus clients? have all the clients in one buisness paypal account? or is it better to open separate accounts for each?

Or what would you personally do, as a suggestion ?

    Many thanx

    1. Andrew Minalto

      HI Meital,

      Thanks for your comment.

      1) Yes, as you can have just one personal PayPal account – all others should be business accounts. No, there are no extra costs or monthly fees associated with having a business PayPal account.

      2) To keep it simple, accounting wise, I would probably just use one business PayPal account for all clients and assign new email for each account. Just so you cane easily sort out payments by client, using email as main filter.

      Hope this helps!

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  8. Hello,
I am From India & I wanted to close my personal paypal a/c to open a new premire paypal a/c because there is no option of upgrade to premire a/c. Paypal customer care representative (India) also suggest me to do so. Will there be any problem to open a new a/c with old paypal email address, old bank a/c no.,old debit card no.(of my current paypal a/c which I want to close)?
    Thanks!
    Pravin (India)

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Pravin,

      Thanks for your comment.

Are you 100% sure that there is no upgrade option in your account?

I really don’t know how it works in India as here we have a simple upgrade option for personal accounts to upgrade to Premier or Business account.

If PayPal tells you have to close down that account and open new one, then you probably should do that, if there’s no upgrade option available.

As for same email, card, bank account etc, – you should also ask them about this. Chances are you’ll need new email, card and account.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  9. Hi,
My husband recently passed away. It was very sudden and unexpected. He had an open case on ebay and due to his passing the timescale for replying passed by and ebay refunded the buyer. Ebay has since suspended his account and are now sending harassing emails demanding money and threats of bailiffs and court action. This is the last thing I should have to worry me at this time. Yes, the amount is small, but it is not my account and I have just lost my husband. Ebay policy appears to be get the funds no matter what. What usually happens in such a situation?

    1. My husband has been selling on Ebay since 2006 he was diagnoised with cancer and was sick for a few month before he passed away in 2013, I closed his ebay store for 6 weeks after he passed and opened it up again and continue to sell and keep the store open so I can sell the inventory that we have left, my question is this I can no longer be selling under his name and would like to have the ebay store and paypal account under my name for tax purposes, how do I go about doing this.

I sent paypal an email saying I wanted to change the name on paypal account, Paypal says I cannot change the name on his paypal account but I can open my own paypal account or I can close his paypal account which I don’t want to do since right now I took over my husband business on Ebay and have 14,600 feedback…

I have my own paypal account and when I tried to link his ebay account to my paypal account it said that there was already a ebay account under that name, I was also selling on ebay with my own Ebay & Paypal account, 3 weeks after my husband passed away Ebay banned me forever from selling on my own account, I know once you are banned you are banned from all accounts, I had gotten 7 neutral feedbacks when my husband died but when I explained this to Ebay that my husband was sick for a few months and had passed away they wanted to see his death certificate and when I faxed it to them that wasn’t good enough for them they wanted to see records that my husband was sick in the hospital during the month of June and July, too me that was adding insult to injury I was already devastated over the loss of my husband and I was in mouring I didn’t want to go thru the trouble of getting records to prove that my husband was sick and dying in the hospital and that didn’t even guarantee that they would reinstate me so I left it alone I didn’t need the extra stress, so can you please give me some advice so I can continue to sell out the inventory that is left, I just don’t know how to get his ebay account to my paypal account and just hope they don’t realize that’s it’s me selling on my husband account …thanks

      1. Andrew Minalto

        Hi Sherry,

        So sorry for your loss…

I’m afraid I can’t help you much in this situation – obviously you can’t continue selling from your husband’s account, that’s against any rules.

And you can’t change the name for eBay account too. Basically, that 14 600 feedback account is lost forever as you can’t use or transfer it to your name.

If you would want to continue selling on eBay, your only option is to open your own eBay account. But as you said you were banned by eBay (for what reason?), I don’t know what to suggest really..

        Andrew

      2. Thanks for your reply, I got banned with my own ebay account because I had gotten 7 neutral feedbacks out of 850 positive feedbacks no negative, I got them because my husband was rushed to the hospital several times by ambulance and I couldn’t ship item as fast as I could and seller performances was affected by it, Ebay refused to reinstate me even thought my husband died and I was crying to them to please give me another chance, Ebay does not have a heart, they give no chances they treat every situtation the same.

      3. Andrew Minalto

So sorry to hear about your loss Sherry….

It’s a real shame eBay doesn’t use more individual approach in such situations.

        Andrew

    2. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Finlay,

      Thanks for your comment.

      So sorry about your loss…

You should contact eBay via phone and explain the situation – I’m sure there’s some kind of policy in place when things like these happen.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  10. Hello Andrew. I have a question and I hope you might be able to help me.

I use an Ebay account for shopping only, I don’t ever sell. I have positive feedback and everything is okay.

With Paypal, two things are happening. One, the account is going to get over the 500 limit. Which I am not sure what it means, I Do Not have my bank linked to the account, I only pay with the paypal account so it is not linked. But the 500 dollar limit is close.
The second thing that happened is that i had a change in my name and Paypal is asking me to fax information about it. They won’t just let me change the name.
My question is, Can I just open a new paypal account with the new name? but using the same card to buy stuff? I don’t really want to fax them anything and I don’t want to link the account since my name has changed anyways. I am just not sure, Can I still use my ebay account with a new paypal account? Do I have to fax them the name information and Link my bank so that the limit is lifted?

I wanted to just make a brand new paypal account but Still using the same ebay account Ive used for years.
Would I have to open a brand new Ebay account if I opened a new paypal account?

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Bobby,

      Thanks for stopping by.

You can’t open new PayPal account as each person can only have 1 personal PayPal account. If you open another account and PayPal links these, you can get banned altogether from PayPal.

So just don’t risk and send/upload scanned documents they ask from you to change the name.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      1. what happens when a girlfriend or a family member makes a new paypal account using your address or same computer? would it get banned too?

      2. Andrew Minalto

        Hi Bob,

Yes, from what I have heard, PayPal will ban such accounts too.

PayPal looks at HOUSEHOLD accounts and if someone in family makes a mistake, everyone pays for it.

        Stupid, I know.

        Andrew

  11. Hi Andrew,
Can I just ask if by any chance you can increase the limits for sale before having to wait for 90 days as a seller?
I am paypal verified but my first sold item was a month ago.
I have now requested a higher increased limit. I ‘ve been told I need to wait a few day and I will receive a code. And there is a chance for my increase limit to be accepted.
One of my colleague said that after received that code , she had the limit up to 100 items / month.
At the moment I ve got a limit of 10 items /month , but only allowed to sell 5 items on the wanted category .
I would be interested to know if there is anything I could do to have my account with no limits without having to wait another 60 days.
Could you please let me know if there are more options.
    Regards
    Terezia

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Terezia,

      Thanks for your comment.

Yes, these limits will vary based on your account status and category you want to list. In general, best way to lift these limits is simply to list max number of allowed listings (10 in your case) and then wait for first 3-5 feedbacks to come in. Then again list max allowed listings and simply call eBay and ask them to remove the limit or at least increase it.

This has worked on most occasions for my customers.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  12. Hi Andrew

I would like to ask you if eBay links sellers only through the IP… so last 3years i was selling as a top rated seller on two ebay accounts pretty smoothly until i over time received a suspension for “Low Seller Performance” it is not the most serious of offenses but it takes my complete selling privilege for life.. & i can only buy with those accounts… so next few months i opened everything new(ebay accounts, new address, computer name, bank account, credit card, etc) except i still used the same ip address coz my internet provider kept the same one… now am i linked automatically to previous user coz now days ip address can be used by many people and perhaps logging in their ebay accounts as well.. can you pls tell me if ebay might take my new accounts down soon bcoz of this ?? I;m getting really worried.. THX so much bud!!

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Sam,

      Thanks for stopping by.

No, eBay doesn’t only rely on IP address. As you say, there are now public access internet points, shared Wi-Fis etc. where IP will be fixed for many, un-related people. So I highly doubt eBay bans accounts SOLELY based on a previously banned IP address.

They use cookies, IP, name, address, card, bank account, email addresses to track you down and link accounts. So if you changed everything else, apart from the IP address, you should feel fairly safe.

I can’t give you any guarantees though as there are chances that you have left some other evidence (like using same PayPal account or same domain name etc.)

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  13. Dear Andrew,

You have an awesome site and you seem to have good insight into ebay and pay pal.

I have a question. I know its been asked before here but I just need to clarify something.

Can I have more than one PERSONAL ebay account and link each one to my pay pal account. (do i have to link it to pay pal or another account).

You have said we can open as many accounts as possible but no mention if it was business or personal.

2ndly my pay pal account is my debit credit card. It is not linked into transferring money in and out of paypal areas. So from my understanding they can’t withhold money from me. Is that right.

Plus through paypal, and the way my credit card is set up, can they stop business or restrict income if it goes over 20K. That is the amount that has been flashed around on this page.

The reason I am asking this is, when they send me a record of my pay pal finances (not that I have many transactions lately,or not at all actually as I havent used it for a while, it doesn’t really show much.

So would they still be able to see my money come and go etc when i start up selling products.

Another question. Do you have to have a business account if you are selling products on line for your own income but not have a business as such.

Do I need a business no. etc to do this.

    Hope this makes sense.

    Thankyou for your time.

your post is really good. I have been looking for information all over the place today and finally found your page with so much information due to so many questions being asked.

Thank You for giving so much to many people.

    Kind regards

    Lisa

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Lisa,

      Thanks for your comments.

Will try to answer your questions one by one:

      1) Multiple accounts – you can have un-limited personal AND business accounts. So yes, it doesn’t matter what type, you can have both as many as you want.

      2) Not sure on what type of account is that to be honest. You want to have normal PayPal account, premier type or business so you can receive PayPal and credit cards via PayPal for business.

      3) Business account – yes, on eBay you’ll need a Business account but with PayPal, you can use Premier or Business account (up to you which one).

      Hope this helps Lisa!

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      1. Hi

All I gave paypal was my credit card no. Not my bank details.

        Does that matter.

        another question.

how many ebay accounts can you link into pay pal? IS there a limit.

        I don’t have a busines account yet.

I am learning about ebay and how it deals with business and whether it is worth having a business account. I won’t right now though. Maybe later.

        thanks for your time.

        Lisa

      2. Andrew Minalto

        Hi Lisa,

You can have up to 8 email addresses added on your PayPal account. So you can use same PayPal account for up to 8 eBay accounts (each will have it’s own email.)

        Thanks,
        Andrew

      3. Thank YOu lots Andrew.

I am hoping I will understand It more as I go on.

        Bye.

        Lisa 🙂

Ps you have certainly touched on something here that people are searching for and needing help with. Its amazing how long these messages have been going on for from the time you first started your post.

Excellent Post. Cool answers and good knowledge.

        🙂

  14. hello, I have my personal ebay account permanently ban from selling. Will ebay ban my new, but this time business account? What if I provide different address on both of them? I am not sure with which address I should open my business to avoid restrictions. I can do it with my home address, same as blocked account, or completely different office one. what do you advise to avoid limitatoon on bussines account? Jakub

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Jakub,

      Thanks for your comment.

Yes, most likely they will ban any new accounts you will open in future, even if it’s a business account.

The address change alone won’t help as eBay has a record on your emails, IP address, credit card, bank account etc.

So effectively, you would have to move to a new location, get new bank account, credit card, PayPal account etc. and then you can pretty safely open new account without getting banned.

      NOT easy!

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  15. SOME ADVISE TO CONSIDER WHENEVER COMMUNICATING WITH EBAY OR PAYPAL CUSTOMER SERVICE——–

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT IF YOU CALL EBAY FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE OR WHATEVER THAT YOU PROTECT YOU SELF FROM THEIR BELLIGERENT HABIT OF PROVIDING ***SELLERS*** WITH SUGGESTIONS/ADVICE/ANSWERS THAT ARE COMPLETELY INCORRECT AND LIKELY VIOLATE THEIR POLICY…
SO WHAT I STARTED DOING WAS CALLING THEM USING GOOGLE VOICE ON MY COMPUTER SO I WAS ABE TO RECORD THE ENTIRE CONVERSATION WITH A FREE AUDIO RECORDING PROGRAM (freeaudiorecorder.net). THEN IF AND WHEN EBAY CUSTOMER SERVICE PROVIDED YOU WITH INCORRECT INSTRUCTIONS THAT EITHER RESULTED IN NEGATIVE FEEDBACK, A BUYER PROTECTION CASE, LOW DSR’s OR RESTRICTIONS/HOLDS, YOU WILL HAVE SOMETHING TO SLAP EBAY IN THE FACE WITH… ALWAYS ASK FOR THE REFERENCE NUMBER AT THE END OF EACH CALL AS WELL AS THE NAME OF CS REP BEFORE THE CALL IS ENDED.

SEVERAL TIMES I HAVE CALLED EBAY AND THEY HAVE TOLD ME ONE THING, I FOLLOWED WHAT THEY ADVISED ME TO DO, WHICH LATER CAME BACK TO BITE ME IN THE ASS… EBAY ONLY NOTES THE REASON THE SELLER CALLED, NOTHING TO DO WITH WHAT THE REP INSTRUCTED THE SELLER TO DO TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE.

IF YOU DECIDE TO PROTECT YOURSELF AND RECORD YOUR CALLS WITH EBAY THEN MAKE SURE YOU DONT MENTION THAT YOU’VE RECORDED ANY PREVIOUS CALLS BECAUSE THEY WILL END THE CALL IMMEDIATELY… UNLESS OF COURSE YOU ARE SPEAKING TO A MANAGER OF EXECUTIVE ESCALATIONS AGENT.

SORRY FOR THE LONG POST, BUT EBAY IS LIKE THE ONLY CHILD THAT NEVER PLAYS FAIR AND IT PAYS TO BE ONE STEP AHEAD OF THEM WHENEVER POSSIBLE.

    GOODLUCK

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Mark,

Thanks for sharing this, it’s a great tip!

And I can totally agree that sometimes eBay customer service doesn’t know what they’re doing and giving wrong advice!!!!

      Thanks again,
      Andrew

      1. hello there Andrew

So how do you know what is the right advice off ebay if you are a novice like I am.

Just been reading all of the issues on ebay and there is so much hurt etc.

SO I was wondering about this last comment.

How can you know if its wrong or right. Plus after you have recorded the message when do you tell them that you have recorded the message. Etc.

        Thanks

        Lisa

      2. Andrew Minalto

        Hi Lisa,

As a newbie, you can’t know..

Sad, but it;s true. It takes years to learn eBay inside out and even then it’s not easy to keep up with all the latest changes.

I would recommend you simply reading eBay’s official guides here:

        http://ocsnext.ebay.com/ocs/home

        Thanks,
        Andrew

  16. Andrew,
I sold for about 3 months on Ebay and got 3 neg feedback’s in the same evaluation period (with low dsr’s). Ebay slapped me with an indefinite suspension. I have since gotten 2 of the neg feedback’s removed and replaced with 5* pos feedback’s but Ebay says my selling privileges are still going to remain suspended.

Shouldn’t I get my selling privileges back like the cs rep said would happen but still hasn’t?
    Thanks in advanced-
    Mark

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Mark,

      Thanks for stopping by,

All you can do really is call eBay and try to resolve this on the phone. Be persistent and maybe you manage to get your account back in working order.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  17. Hi Adrew,

I read the article, very useful and many thanks for providing such a useful information.

I have one question. I have one ebay account linked with my Paypal account. For my this ebay account eBay has suspended my seller account. Can I link my friends eBay account with my Paypal account?

    Regards,
    Muhammad

    1. Andrew Minalto

      HI Muhammad,

      Thanks for your question.

In a word – no, don’t do it! eBay will link these two accounts and ban your friends account too.

      Sorry about that.

      Andrew

  18. Hello,
My question is a little different. My husband and I have had separate ebay and paypal accounts for several years. This year (2013) I will stop selling a little before I reach $20,000 threshold and 200 items. My husband has also listed a few items—not much, maybe $1500 total for the entire year.
My question is, will paypal send us a 1099 if our accounts total over $20,000? Again, we have separate ebay, paypal and bank accounts. We do file our taxes jointly and have the same home address. Other then that, we do not mix our finances.
    Thanks,
    Erin

    1. I am so sorry, I just realized that this is a UK based website. My 1099 question would not apply here
      Thanks,
      Erin

      1. Andrew Minalto

        HI Erin,

        Thanks for your question.

Yeah, I’m not really sure how this works in the US so you’ll have to look for answers somewhere else.

        Thanks,
        Andrew

  19. Hi,

I have one question, I had 1 ebay account with 550+ 100% feed backs and it was top rated , power seller I was selling mobile cases on it, then I opened another paypal account and ebay account 2 months ago but didn’t tell ebay and paypal that I have another account, I keep them separate but some how they got linked without my knowledge,

Suddenly ebay put restriction on both of my accounts and they said it is indefinite restriction? I can buy and both paypal work fine but can’t sell ? Do you think this restriction will be lifted ? or will they consider apeal on this my fault was listed same item same listing on both account which seems like breach of ebay listing policy?

    thanks

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi There,

      Thanks for your comment.

This: was listed same item same listing on both account which seems like breach of ebay listing policy?

It is indeed a breach of their policy and a BIG ONE! In eBay eyes you have tried manipulate search results with two identical listings for same product, from different accounts.

Plus you had 2 PayPal accounts which again is against PayPal terms and conditions (you can have just one personal PayPal account).

Only thing I can recommend is calling eBay and try to explain situation, that it was a genuine mistake etc. It’s your last option really.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  20. I’m not sure if you’ve answered this, but it’s a pretty unorthodox question from what I’m seeing in other threads.

For the last 3 years, my boyfriend has used my ebay account and subsequently my linked PayPal account (SSN) to sell on eBay as his primary income. He treats it like a business, but it’s not a store or a business account in any way. We are in the process of separating and he would like to be able to keep the eBay account (Top Rated Seller, 100s of feedback) but attach a new PayPal account so that the income is no longer reported in my name. Is this possible?

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Grace,

      Thanks for your question.

As far as I know, it’s possible to transfer eBay account to another person if it’s part of a selling business deal. But you have to contact eBay anyway to find this out.

PayPal is easy, he just opens new account on his name and uses it.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  21. Helllo. First sorry for my english 🙂

I have a question about selling items on two difference private accounts on ebay. Now i have one private account where Im selling clothes . But can I open another, second account for selling the same ?
    Thank you.

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Diana,

      Thanks for your question,

YES, you can have as many eBay accounts as you want.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  22. hello !
I have a question about refund i buy too many things in ebay , but no always I am satisfied or sometimes o do not received the item never . So last two months i have buy more than 40 items in ebay and i have received to many refund because the quality of product which usually comes from china are to poor also i have never receive some item . It is problem that i have received to many refund from sellers last two month i am afraid may my account in ebay will block . Thank you

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Egli,

      Thanks for stopping by,

Yes, too many refunds could cause your account being banned on eBay and PayPal.

No one knows exact percentages for this but I’d say if out of 40 transactions 10+ are refunds, chances are you’re already drawing PayPal’s attention to your account, so be careful from who you buy stuff online.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      1. hello , thank you for your answer but i do not have other way the only way is to get my money back so why pay pal or ebay should being banned me i think i have get more than 12 refund and at this moment i have not received any notification from ebay or pay pal.

      2. Because they also try to protect sellers from scammers who buy stuff online and ask for refunds, for no reason.

12 is a lot but as I said, they *COULD” ban you. No ons knows for sure what their formulas are for this. So you just have to wait and hope that they won’t close your account down.

        Thanks,
        Andrew

      3. But i have facts that i have never received the items and i have also fact that the item that i received from china are so different from the photos the quality is too poor , they should protect me and no seller.

  23. Denise Silva

    Hi Andrew,

I linked 2 bank accounts to my paypal account and I want to use 2 different email addresses. One for each bank account. I read that it’s possible but I can’t find the step by step on how to get this done. Can you help?
    I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks in advance,
    Denise

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Denise,

      Thanks for your email.

If you have a business PayPal account, you can add additional users to your account. I believe that’s what you want to do?

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  24. Hello,
I have a regular eBay account registered on .com and linked with my paypal account. Now I want to open 2 more accounts on different ebay site – .co.uk and .it with different contacts info and I want to link them with another paypal account with different contacts info. My question is it possible to get banned for this? and will my first ebay and paypal account get banned too if i use the same computer for all of the accounts?
    Thanks in advance!

    1. Hello George, please if you have any information about that share it. I am almost in the same situation. The difference is, i would like to use a different country seller accounts with the same paypal. Best Regards

    2. Andrew Minalto

      Hi George,

      Thanks for your comment.

By eBay rules you can have as many accounts as you want, so can’t see any problems with doing what you want to do as long as all the contact, address, personal etc. info is legit.

But don’t take my word for it! Contact eBay and ask yourself.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  25. hi,
i read your article and still confuse, is it allowed to have multiple personal paypal account, why am i doing so is i have a debit card and i want to purchase something online. However i cant pay with my paypal through the debit card (but it works if i have money in the paypal itself) so i think its a good idea to set up another paypal account, link my debit card in the new account and fund my original account.

It doesnt work anyway, but i just want to know if i would get ban because of that?
    Thankyou

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Cho,

      Thanks for your email.

YES, you can def. get into trouble by doing this as with PayPal (by rules) you’re only allowed to have ONE personal account.

If you don’t have a credit card, just add your bank account to your PayPal.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  26. Thank you Andrew,

It is considered standard at this time but hovering on becoming below standard for like I say, I have 2 low DSR’s in 3 categories and one category that has 3 low DSR’s.
I am wondering if I should just close the whole account ( only the one with the low DSR’s) now or just the sellers portion of it ?
If I were to close just the sellers portion then would the low DSR’s be able to work against me in any way per the other perfect standing account and the new seller account I would create?
I just don’t know if I should now close the acct. entirely or the seller portion for want to be perfectly sure I would be in the safe zone all the way around.

I’m just trying to be proactive for anyone leaving future star ratings ” could” push me over the edge for ebay does not want anyone to have over 3 low DSR’s in any area.
I’m seeing now where Ebay is suspending accounts with just maybe one or two low stars in a category or two, folks that have better star ratings than I do at this time.
I really need to keep 2 good accounts going for two separate niche reasons.

    1. Andrew Minalto

I don’t know Sally, I have no personal experience with a situation like this.

If you can (eBay allows you), then probably yes – it will be safer to close that account down altogether. No point in leaving a buyer account as those you can open as many as you want.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  27. HI Andrew,

I have 2 ebay accounts but one is borderline getting axed due to the ” star ratings”, have 2’s in 3 categories with a 3 in one. ( these were unfairly given , I think a lot of people just click on a star and think they’ve been fair just giving one)
Other than that one bad feedback ( again, unfairly given to me ) and all else is good.
In any event, the other account is in top notch condition…no problems.
My question is, if I close out the one borderline account how much waiting period is there before I can start again, what all is involved and would they close out my other account also if I were to just want to close the one ?
I’m thinking of doing this to start a clean slate and prevent the ax from coming down on me, I need this income badly and truly am a good seller.
    Thank you !

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Sally,

      Thanks for stopping by.

Is the performance for that account Below the standard?

If so, you can’t close that account – eBay won’t let you do that until you improve it’s performance.

And if they decide to suspend that account, chances are your other, good performing account will be closed too.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  28. Andrew Minalto

    Brenda,

As I said, I don’t know what you should do as there are no guarantees and at the end of the day – PayPal & eBay can do whatever they want and ban you anyway.

eBay owns the PayPal so they can see if you’re using several accounts at same time. That’s why I said that it could be that they already have linked those two accounts. Not saying they will def. ban other account but there’s a chance that it can happen.

You won’t be able to “un-link” them now if they have already been linked.

    Hope that makes sense.

    Thanks,
    Andrew

  29. Sorry and to add to the above,
if I change the banned paypal address, including the bank address, will it still affect my work account if I then add another new bank card?
My paypal account for work is absolutely crucial. It is to make purchases only and will have very few transactions.
I was just wondering how I can avoid getting my work paypal from being banned. Should I change the address on the already banned paypal, or do I change the address on work paypal. Do I need a new credit card in a new address? and change the current paypal with my work? Or start completely new and open a new paypal with new address and new credit card.
    Thank you.

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Brenda,

      Thanks for your comment.

Chances are that eBay already has linked your two accounts so it won’t change anything that you will try to trick them now.

The good news is that eBay often are ok with buying accounts and only ban selling accounts. But this will depend on the reason why your seller account was banned?

Was it policy breach, feedback or counterfeit goods?

      1. no, it was because i went on vacation and the shipment wasn’t on time. And so I had a lot of open cases and claims. However once i got back, I refunded everyone and I have no more opened cases but they still closed me. So I think the only reason they closed it was because I had a lot of open cases. All the transactions were less than 15 dollars, most around 3 dollars.
And so even if I add another credit card to my work account they will know? Even if it is under a new address? because my work account is under a different email with no cards attached.

      2. Andrew Minalto

In that case there’s a chance that you’ll be ok with using that account with a new card and different address.

But it’s hard to know for 100% as eBay logs IP addresses too so if you used (logged into) your seller account @ work just one time, they “could” link them.

        Thanks,
        Andrew

      3. and if i just change my address on my credit card that I have never attached to my work ebay, will they still be able to look up my previous credit card address?

      4. Thanks for your reply Andrew.

Does paypal work exactly the same way as ebay? My paypal is linked to my work website so I never had to sign in from home at all. Should i change my work paypal address so it wont be attached to my already banned paypal?

  30. Hi,
I have a paypal account that was already linked to my work for purchasing purposes, which I have removed the card to link to a new paypal account for business purposes outside of work. The business paypal got banned. Will my work paypal get banned too if I link up a new credit card with same address?

  31. technologycorrect

    Hello Andrew,

My name is Dashawn Jackson & my question is more of in the advanced category. I’ve been selling on eBay for about a year now, I’ve been blocked numerous times for receiving bad feedback. So now i kind of got the just of why eBay block people so i’m more of a careful seller, However my recent eBay seller account has been restricted indefinitely, Not the entire account just my selling account. I used a Paypal account to receive funds from this eBay account but i never went into my eBay preferences and clicked “Link Paypal Account”. I noticed that you said if you connect existing accounts i risk getting all of them blocked, But neither was my eBay or Paypal account blocked, it was my eBay sellers account. So my question to you is ” Can I just simply keep using that Paypal account with seven more eBay account with out worry?” Also, even if i do not link my eBay to my Paypal account is it still Linked secretly by eBay? I appreciate Your help.
    Dashawn Jackson
    Thanks

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Dashawn,

      Thanks for stopping by.

eBay sees everything what’s going on PayPal as they own the PayPal company.

You don’t have to link accounts on eBay for them to catch you.

Even more – it takes just one LOGGING (not even payment) from same computer for them to automatically link those accounts.

So don’t worry – eBay already knows all about your various accounts and PayPal account. Will it get banned? Not sure, no one can tell but there’s a chance, yes.

Sometimes it happens days, weeks and even months after they ban the eBay account so you’ll just have to wait and see.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  32. Hello there,

I have some questions to make myself too. I have an account at ebay.co.uk and I decided to start selling various items..the problem is that I live in greece so I can’t be a seller as I don’t have an English address and phone number. So, I registered a new account at ebay.com as they told me..my question is if there is a way to transfer my old information and feedback from the first account to the new one ..thank you!!!!!!!!!!

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Anna Maria,

      Thanks for stopping by.

No, you can’t transfer feedback from one eBay account to another – that’s IMPOSSIBLE!

But why did you open new account at all? You can use one eBay account and login on any eBay regional site, with same details. And if your address has changed, you can always change that on eBay too. You don’t need a UK address to sell on eBay.co.uk – anywhere in the World can sell on eBay.co.uk

      Hope this helps!

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  33. hi Andrew ,

Can I use different computer lon in ebay account with the same line ? Thanks

    1. Andrew Minalto

      HI Becky,

Do you mean using different computers to login into eBay account at SAME TIME?

      Let me know,
      Thanks,
      Andrew

  34. Hi,do you think it is a good idea for 1 ebay account to use 2 paypal account (eg. 1 for micro paymeny, 1 for regular payment)
for whatever under $10, put micropayment paypal account, and whatever selling over $10, put the regular paypal account.
Is this allowed? can we put different paypal emails under different listings within the same ebay account?

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi John,

Not sure really… technically it can be done but I’m almost certain this is called “playing the system” and eBay won’t like it.

Get in touch with eBay and ask them but chances are they won’t like it.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      1. Hi Andrew, thanks for your reply.
I’m sure most sellers has items selling under and over $10.
In this case, what is your advise if not to “play the system”
Do you just work out whether the majority of your item is over or under $10 and decide from there?

eg. if your ebay store has about 70% items listed under $10 and 30% over $10, we just use micropayment?

i have heard that people create 2 separate ebay accounts and paypal account for these things. eg. anything over $10 , use a different ebay account and paypal account. but i am not sure if that will work out smoothly.
i am aware that we can open as many ebay account as we want, but im not sure about paypal account, because we use the same name, address, credit card…

      2. That’s the thing – with PayPal you can have just one personal account and one business account per each business you own (Ltd. company). So you can’t just open several personal/premier PayPal accounts.

But yes – you would simply have to do some calculations on how many under $10 payments you receive and how many above that. Just put an Excel spreadsheet together to get at least approx number so you can decide whatever micro payments are beneficial to you or not.

        Thanks,
        Andrew

  35. i have been selling on ebay since 1998.learning my ways with baby steps. There is NO marketplace like ebay.one thing i have learned is nobody is ever 100% happy.my feedback scores have always been no lower than 99.3%.my first account i sold over 10,000 items, closed it to take some time off.opened a new account, noticed times have changed.the economy has hit ebay hard,i really had to work to make sales.my seller dashboard showed that i was below standard in seller ratings but feedback was still high 99%.i came home yesterday to find Ebay has closed my account. No phone call,no communication, nothing.i called to find out what had happened.i got a nuetral feedback and that is what broke the camels back.i worked so hard to get my dash board in order, but only 1/3 of my buyers have left feedback out of 2700 items sold.My question now….What do i do with the thousand dollars worth of goods that i have and can not sell?this was a business,i pay taxes on it,i have a seperate room in my house,we depended on it.most companys can write it off as a loss. i am at total shock that this had happened and very confused.any help or ideas would be welcomed.i could go on and on but won’t…..thank you!

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Mark,

I’m sorry to hear about your experience…

This is the biggest problem with eBay and companies alike – they have control over you and you can’t do anything about it. This is why I started working on my own online shops early on so I can be in 100% control on what’s going on.

As for your situation – you could try calling them again, ask to speak with a manager – sometimes you can sort these things out. If not and they keep the lifetime ban, you’ll have to look for alternative selling channels.

If you have products that are suitable for an online shop, start one asap. It will be a huge learning curve for you but at the end it will be worth it. Having your own online shop is THE WAY to go in long term anyway so the sooner you start, the better.

In meantime, you could simply list those products on Amazon’s Marketplace – it’s a very active selling platform nowadays and many people actually move away from eBay to Amazon.

If everything else fails, just sell those items on Craigslist, car boots or whatever – to get your investment back at least.

But as I said, the best option is simply to start working on your own online shop. If you need guidance on that, check out my eCommerce Magnates course here:

      http://ecommercemagnates.com/special-offer/

And remember, it’s not all lost! You can still turn this ship around and take new direction in your life. For best.

      Hope this helps Mark!

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      1. Thank you very much for your very fast reply.

I have bought out several sports stores when they closed.Buying nothing but licensed team jerseys.85% of the items are new.some with tags some without.the other 15% of items are vintage bot in great condition.i have thousands of items in bins(OMG).no really!

i enjoyed selling on ebay, but found the system really favors the buyers now.i am still in shock that this is no longer a job for me and my family.i need to find another way to do this without ebay.i have tried etsy, with nothing but people loving or favoriting your items.I had very good luck on yahoo actions and Yardseller on facebook , but both sites are closed.

any ideas on what to do,where to go?maybe because i am in total shock,i can not think stright…LOL

The sad thing is,i new ebay would come to an end.all they want is the big sellers.i was hurting the marketplace.why spend 90-150 dollars for a sports jersey, when a small seller has the same item for 24-45 dollars.people i bought from in the past.not one of them is active, out of over 120 stores

sorry venting! thanks again for any help you give me.i will share this site with loyal buyers and seelers

      2. Andrew Minalto

        Hi Mark,

Licensed team jerseys are PERFECT for Amazon or your own online shop, especially if you have so many of them left.

If you want to stick with this niche, start listing on Amazon and in meanwhile build your own shop.

If you just want to get rid of this stock, simply sell them off on Amazon and then look for new direction/niche.

        Thanks,
        Andrew

      3. thank you! i am going that route!

  36. JO FIELDING

Good Morning. Some advice please. I have had my ebay account for years, for both buying and selling. I have now started selling hand made items. They are doing really well, and I want to do the ‘right’ thing and register as a business seller, pay tax etc. What I need to know is will I start paying tax from the day I register, or will I have to declare everything I’ve ever sold. Many thanks.

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Jo,

      Thanks for your question.

eBay doesn’t care about this. But when you register with HMRC, you’ll be able to basically declare previous sales (up for 3 months) and expenses too (if you still have receipts).

But in essence, you’ll start paying tax on your recent business activities and NOT on everything you have ever sold as a individual seller.

      Hope this helps!

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      1. JO FIELDING

Thanks for that. I have just looked into the ins and outs of becoming a business seller. There are far too many disadvantages (the returns process is a joke.Having to refund postage costs as well if they simply change their mind) All my items are made to order with some personalised, so wouldn’t want to offer returns. Can I register for tax without becoming a business seller on ebay? Thanks in advance.

      2. Not sure on that one to be honest….

Technically you should be able to do this yes, but once you reach certain sales volume in PayPal, it will ask you to upgrade your account anyway.

        Thanks,
        Andrew

  37. Hi Andrew,

I am kind of new to ebay and I recently opened an account I have almost 10 feedbacks all of them are 100% positive, but my concern is if I want to sell an item will paypal close my account when I would want to withdraw the money from the sold item due a low number of feedback ? Thanks alot

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Wassim,

      Thanks for stopping by.

No, of course not. Why would they want to close your account? If you’re playing by rules, they won’t do it (in 99% cases).

Only thing with new accounts is that PayPal will put 21 day block on each sale and release money only after 21 day after sale OR after customer leaves you feedback.

But that probably is nothing new to you if you’re already selling.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      1. Ok thanks alot, if the customer give a poor feedback what would happen then?

      2. Andrew Minalto

        don’t let that happen!

if you get a negative with just 10 feedbacks, that pretty much means end of your eBay career – at least with that account. 2 negs and eBay will probably ban you in no time.

So do whatever it takes to avoid negative feedbacks.

        Thanks,
        Andrew

  38. Hi There,

The e-bay restricted my account.Which means,I can only sell locally.

But I can still use my friend’s account to sell/buy.

Can I change my friend’s paypal’s address on ebay so that I can pay the ebay fees directly with my own paypal account?.

Would it be restricted for this account if ebay knows it?.

    Thanks,

    Saw

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Saw,

      Thanks for your question.

YES! eBay will “link” your account with friend’s account and will ban that too.

If you use friend’s account, don’t do it at your house as eBay can see your location too (by IP address).

      Thanks,
      Andrew

  39. OK.Perhaps you have addressed this question before, but I could not find the answer on your site. My question is this: Since Paypal generates 1099’s after $20,000 and 200 items in total per SSN, if 2 people in the same household with the same IP address filing jointly have separate Paypal accounts, will the 1099 be generated for combined sales of the 2 people with separate accounts, or only if each individual receives $20,000 through Paypal? In other words, once one person receives say $15,000 through Paypal, can the other person receive $10,000 without having Paypal generate a 1099? I assume the answer is yes, since Paypal will computer generate a 1099 by account and SSN, not by combined household accounts. Thanks for your help. You have a great site!

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi There,

      Thanks for your question.

Unfortunately I won’t be able to help you with this as in UK we don’t have 1099’s etc.

I would agree with your logic though – it should be PER ACCOUNT basis rather than household.

But I would recommend you contacting PayPal to confirm this – their support has improved greatly and I have received responses to my request within 24h lately.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      1. OK. I will contact Paypal. Thank You!

      2. Andrew Minalto

        You’re Welcome! 🙂

  40. LMAO…ok then! thanks anyway

  41. I recently read this month on auction bytes somewhere mentioned that starting November 2013, members will no longer be able to have Multiple eBay Accounts.

Q: Were you not aware of this?

If not, then it was also suggested that anyone wishing to have another accounts should do so BEFORE October 26, 2013 while current User Agreement acceptance options are in process.

I do appreciate the information you’ve shared but let’s remember that UK eBay terms and practices differ for USA accounts and do not always agree with same UK practices.

I sell as a hobby (toronan) since 1999 but I am not a dealer or an expert. One secret to my success as a buyer leaving negative feedback is to apply ONLY WHILE ON TELEPHONE with site reps. If a buyer leaves bad comments to a seller from log in page then the chances of having it removed or being suspended are far more greater than will on the telephone with a rep. It was suggested (to me) to ALWAYS call ebay or submit an inquiry where they create a code to call them back using that information and be live on the phone with a site rep discussing your drama. MANY times (as you can see I do it quite often for true reasons thou) I was instructed to call the toll number to get into site with ebay rep and then log into my account and leave seller my feedback (I only do this if its a negative) so that they can confirm comment to be legit;otherwise, if I leave a bad review WITHOUT calling them then my chances of being suspended (as a buyer) would be greater than if witnessed by a live phone rep. This is done to help others avoid being taken advantage by sellers deserving my derogatory comment. Ebay reps said they will always take buyers side if done this way (but its not a known detail in writing) etc.

Q: Were you aware of this?

If not, try it when you have a need to leave your seller (in UK) a bad comment. This process will HELP any seller keep a better seller-status while following this buyer-method.

Now, for those that have been selling as long as I have on ebay, do you remember some years back when you delat business with a buyer or seller and “if” they were eBay employees, they were REQUIRED to make that known.

    Q: Do you remember this?

Ok, now here’s my inquiry with you: On August 13, 2013 you suggested (quote):

[change IP on your PC (usually can be done by simply restarting your router) and then you can try opening a new account]

For those sellers that have saved (like me) all those eBay EMPLOYEE (buyer-seller ID) since they’re no longer required to volunteer that info anymore, I want to also be able to do the same (to them) if or when I buy something from these employees in order to have “only when necessary” if ever!

Q: Will your “change IP” suggestion work for me if I do the following:

    1. If my ebay IP shows being at home (Atlanta, Ga) each time I’m logging into my ebay account, if I go use the Computer Room in my loft building business office located downstairs (I live upstairs in apartment) and use “their desktop which is available for residents and create another new eBay account:

Q: Will eBay know its still me since the desktop in downstairs in my same building?
Q: Would the IP address remain the same or automatically different?
Q: If so, should I then ONLY use the downstairs desktop in business office for that new ID?
Q: And, are you 100% certain that by anyone [change IP on your PC (usually can be done by simply restarting your router) and then you can try opening a new account] will work, or, is that your “speculation?

Thank you, K. Rose (aka toronan)

As I said, I’m not really an expert on banned eBay/PayPal accounts – if you want to learn more about this and most effective ways to get a new eBay account, check out this forum:

  42. am i in big trouble?can i go to prison i bought item of some cinese website aliexpress.com

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Petr,

      Thanks for stopping by,

Why did your eBay account was suspended in first place? Did you sold any branded/designer stuff?

If eBay suspends your account (for life), it will suspend your PayPal account too. And it will suspend any new accounts you open. Basically, you’re screwed for life and won’t be able to simply open new account and start all over.

But let me know why your account was suspended as sometimes, if the reason is valid, you can actually lift ban from your account.

      Thanks,
      Andew

  44. Hi Andrew

I’m so glad I’ve come across your website! I’m a little baffled to say the least with this business account lark ….. The stuff I have been selling is genuinely my own as I don’t have the space and my life has become a total mess. I am being prompted by Paypal to upgrade to a business account. It’s absurd, as they take into account your postage and packing. The postage for my last listing was £80 and what I got before fees was about £50. Most of my items were free packaging, as I thought it would help encourage bidders – it was another ‘give away your items. Denise weekend’! Anyway, that is perhaps by the by, but this constant badgering by Paypal has made me wonder if it is possible for me to do the same as others and have a business. So I could keep my personal account to get rid of the rest of the stuff and somehow try and ‘buy’ and sell. It wouldn’t be constant as I currently have heart problems and so it wouldn’t be a ‘big’ business selling account. I can see that the fees are about £20 a month, and I see the listing and final selling fees …… an extra expense if you don’t have much to sell.

I read somewhere in one of your replies that you have to register as a business ….. do you mean register as a business at Companies House? I am aware that you have to declare to HMRC – not a problem, no intention of trying to avoid anything that has to be done.

As I don’t know it will work, I would be reluctant to do that. I have done some research and see that Santander will let you open a business account for free for the first 12 months. Sorry I’ve rambled on a bit and thank you for your patience …..

    Many thanks and kind regards,
    Denise.

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Denise,

      Thanks for your comment.

YES, you can have one personal and one business account with PayPal and it’s totally FREE! There are no monthly fees associated with PayPal business account.

And on eBay you can have as many accounts as you want.

As for registering with HMRC – yes, you need to register as a sole trader, more info here:

      https://www.gov.uk/set-up-sole-trader

      Hope this helps!

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      1. Hi Andrew

You are so kind to give your time in helping so many of us that get stuck! Thank you so much for such a prompt response and for helping me. I will look into it a litle more closely now, in particular the link you sent me. Most important – I wouldn’t have known where to look.

        Thanks again.

        Kind Regards
        Denise

  45. Deibys Marquez

    Hi Andrew,

Question I have a personal account on eBay.com and just started to sell items, the payments goes to my PayPal business account, I would like to change my old Paypal business account to the new PayPal business account that I just opened with a friend. Can I do that? The problem is that we had open a new eBay account to sell the same items so I can stop selling those items in my personal eBay account, but with that new eBay account we have 0 positive feedback so it is hard to sell, I decided to close the new eBay account and I was wondering if it is allow to change Paypal accounts and just use one account only.

On my eBay account I go to PayPal account and from there I can remove my linked PayPal account, but I am afraid to do that and then not be able to add the new PayPal account and who knows what else can happen. I want to do the right thing here and not be kicked out of eBay.
As you can see I am lost with this.

    Hope this makes sense!!
    Please advice.

    Thank you.

    Deibys

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Deibys,

      Thanks for your comment.

I wouldn’t recommend you using your friends PayPal account on your eBay account to sell stuff. I’m not sure it’s against eBay rules but it could cause all kinds of problems when your account gets reviewed under a dispute or something else.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      1. Deibys Marquez

        Thanks Andrew,

        I appreciate that!

        Regards.

        Deibys

  46. Hi Andrew,

  47. My Ebay account was restricted for selling due to low DSRs. My husband has his own eBay account as well as his own Paypal account and they are in no way related or linked to mine. The only thing the two accounts share is our home address.

Since my account was suspended, will it in any way effect his account?

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi There,

      Thanks for stopping by.

It depends, but usually yes – eBay bans all accounts from same household. I know that totally sucks and makes no sense at all but that’s how it works.

I’m not saying it will happen 100% but it could happen – from the stories I have heard.

If they do ban your husband’s account, he should contact eBay and say that he has nothing to do with the other account etc. etc., sometimes they listen and lift restrictions.

Sorry, not much of a help, I know.

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      1. Samuel D

Well, why is everyone kissing eBay’s ass just for the pleasure to get screwed up? With all due respect to some sellers and buyers, I blame them all for sticking with this crooked company that target mostly sellers and freezes their accounts if a crooked buyer pretend that he or she never received the item. Why don’t you make up your mind guys and join some of the newest auction websites, since you can pay a lesser selling fee and you are more and better protected than being with eBay and its crooked PayPal bank that had frozen hundreds of sellers accounts with all their earnings, just for the fact that some crooks had claimed that they never got their items despite that the victimized sellers had provided eBay with a tracking number?Make up your mind people!!! Anyone can start up a website like eBay’s owner did and your business will grow up like his. When this guy started his company, he didn’t even have the price of a new tire for his car, and now look at him collecting your money without giving a shit about your frozen earnings.
        WAke UP.

      2. Andrew Minalto

Samuel, can you share with us some sites like eBay that get same volume of traffic/buyers/sales?

        I’m sure you can’t…

And that’s the reason why people stick with eBay – as it’s the World’s largest (by far) marketplace where anyone can start selling in few minutes time.

There’s no real competition to eBay.

  48. Jeremiah Hamblin

    Will do

  49. Jeremiah Hamblin

    Hi Andrew,
When i found this I was very excited. You are clearly very knowledgeable on these matters. Here is my Question and problem if you don’t mind helping me out: I have sellers account on ebay that was going very well. I only had around 80 sales but they were for large amounts of money ( more than a few thousand per week ). I sell all kinds of Bullion and Rare Coins. I started off slow as i heard you always should, only ran auctions, and always ended them Sunday evening. As i began selling more and more I noticed people were starting to open cases on me. Claiming things like the package never arrived mainly, but also not as described twice. The bigger the dollar amounts the more people were trying to rip me off. Thank goodness for registered priority with insurance. These claims were all false and ebay took care of all but two negative feedback attempts out of 12. Then last week my entire shipment disappeared ( over $3000 and I was counting on that to pay my ebay fees). I ship through a company that works with UPS, FED EX, USPS, they have P.O. boxes, etc. BBB accredited and had been around or a very long time. It’s under investigation but I’m now shut down for not making my payment in time. I was able to inform some of the buyers before shut down by ebay but all of them have reported me including the ones I informed about the problem. Somehow all of the money in my Paypal account disappeared and I’m in fact negative. Now I have no way of making money to even pay them and even when I do I’ll have 10 negative feedback’s and nobody will buy from me again. Is there anything I can do about this situation? Can I create another ebay and paypal account with different email and bank accont so i can make the money to pay off the account and then close the old account and just start over? Is that against ebay and paypal rules. I’ve read all of your posts and learned a lot but I don’t know what I can do here. Is Amazon ok? I heard not. Have you heard of onlineauction.com or greatcollections.com, or HeritageAuctions? I’ve been researching but don’t know what to do? Any advice I would so greatly appreciate.
    Sincerely,
    Jeremiah

    1. Andrew Minalto

      Hi Jeremiah,

Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

Basically you’re screwed. Both your eBay and PayPal accounts are banned and by their rules you can’t have a new account FOR LIFE!

But there are ways to go around this problem. I’m not an expert on this topic but here’s a forum that should help you out:

      http://www.paypalsucks.com/

      Hope this helps Jeremiah!

      Thanks,
      Andrew

      1. Jeremiah Hamblin

I figured that would be the case. Thanks for your help. Take care

      2. Andrew Minalto

        Good Luck!

Let me know if you find a safe way to open new accounts.

        Thanks,
        Andrew

  50. I have an business PayPal account, but I don’t sell on eBay. I often by stuff for my kids on eBay.
Is it possible to link this private eBay account to my pusiness PayPal account?
Or will I get in trouble?

    1. Andrew Minalto

You can definitely do that, there’s nothing wrong with that!

This is not against any eBay or PayPal rules.

      Thanks,
      Andrew
